Experiences As a thirty-one-year-old I feel awkward walking into a classroom full of young adults who just graduated from high school. Sometimes it is difficult for me to have any kind of common interests with my classmates because majority of them are very young. I try to do my best to be friendly and kind to everyone, but sometimes it is easier for me to talk to other veterans who I can relate to. Due to my financial status as a nineteen-year-old I was not able to attend college right after high school. Often I feel discouraged because it took me over ten years to continue my education, but now that I have taken on this challenge I am looking forward to accomplishing an important life goal. This semester, I have learned so much about History and about myself. When Christopher Columbus decided to take a voyage, trying find a shorter route to India and China, but ultimately ended up finding a whole new continent it is what started the overall exploration and exploitation of a new world. After Christopher Columbus discovery, other explorers followed suit from other western European countries, to lay claim to new found land, raw goods, and gold. Such exploitation affected the native inhabitants of the new world, the main cause for many of their deaths was the exposure to small pox and other diseases after encountering the western European explorers. As we all know from the memorable song, in 1492 Columbus sailed to find the New World, commonly known as the Americas. Many idolize Columbus for his accomplishment in colonizing the Americas and starting the Columbian Exchange. The Columbian Exchange is the sharing of plants, animals, diseases, human populations, technology, and ideas between the Western and Eastern Hemispheres as a direct result of Columbus’ arrival to the Americas. However, we often oversee the downfalls of the Columbian Exchange. Some consequences of the exchange are the spread of disease to the Native people and settlers, the destruction of the Native population, and the disappearance of the Natives custom’s, beliefs, and way of life.
Christopher Columbus was a European explorer who a more fitting title would be a conqueror. He didn't discover anything as the common believe would say, rather he conquered already inhabited land. Christopher Columbus "exploration" had a bunch of direct and indirect effects. The exploration sponsored by the King and Queen of Spain had direct effects such as giving Spain control over new land and giving Christopher Columbus the fame he so desired, furthermore the so-called exploration also had some indirect effects such as allowing other nations to sail West and it also affected the Natives and increased the slave trade.
Many events occurred such as, The New World being discovered by European Explorers in 1492. Later in 1498, they also discovered a sea route to India in the East. All of these events contributed to the idea that the Explorers had more impact than the Reformation and Religions. Thus, the Explorers were more important because they found the New World and discovered many things. Christopher Colombus was who found the New World and Vasco de Gama discovered the sea route to India.
Typhus, diphtheria, malaria, influenza, cholera, and smallpox killed many of the native people. Many lands of the Americas were discovered before and after the year of 1492; European influence had a roaring effect on the reign it sprung forth, during the many voyages by explorers. Christopher Columbus is profoundly known to be the key asset to advancing European culture across seas. The Columbian Exchange, colonization, and the growth of slave usage throughout the usage of the Triangular Trade, all conveyed foreign practices to the American Continent while also interrupting, but at the same time joining with the lifestyles of the inhabitants of these lands.

The Spread of Disease In the New World The extraordinary good health of the natives prior to the coming of the Europeans would become a key ingredient in their disastrous undoing. The greatest cause of disease in America was epidemic diseases imported from Europe. Epidemic diseases killed with added virulence in the " virgin soil" populations of the Americas. The great plague that arose in the Old World never emerged on their own in the western hemisphere and did not spread across oceans until Columbus' discovery.
When Columbus sailed the ocean in 1492 he came upon a new landmass, now known as the Bahamas which had never been “discovered” before. As they explored they discovered this landmass already had a population of people of its own. As Europeans marched in to trade their goods, they came in contact with the Native Americans making it possible for the spread of animals, crops, and diseases. This interaction came to be known as The Columbian Exchange. As the New World started to shape up from the help of the Old World many advantages and disadvantages formed. When Columbus landed on the beaches of the Watling Islands of the Bahamas in October, 1492, he had inadvertently opened up a whole new world for the Europeans, Asians, and other countries of the Eastern hemisphere. Although Columbus was not the first man to truly discover the Americas, he can be credited as the man who made their existence known worldwide. The discovery of the Americas launched an era of discovery and exploration, especially in Europe. Many new foods and animals were brought to the Old World from the Americas. This would not have been possible with out Christopher Columbus. In addition, Columbus’s explorations eventually led to a period of economical growth in Europe. It is important that we take time to remember Columbus’s achievements on Columbus Day.
A major life event that started me to pursue an education in nursing was my time in basic training. The most life changing event during my induction into the army at ft. Jackson before starting basic training was accepting Christ as my personal lord and savior. When I decided to go into the Army 4 years out of high school I was a student firefighter E.M.T. working towards my paramedic, incidents at the Dept. I worked at both before and after some traumatic emergency responses actually turned me away from practicing any sort of medicine and causing me to seek the military for a new career or to pay for me to go back to school for another career if the military wasn’t my thing. During Basic training as stated above I was already a licensed E.M.T.
The discovery of the new world brought the Europeans resources, money, and people. Discovery of the new was such an impact on the European exploration because of land. Countries would now have more land in their name with lots of resources. Discovery the new world made the European come up with the ideal of slavery. This was a negative for the people who lived on the land because they were either killed, brought into slavery, or kicked off the island (3). Crops and resources was another reason why the discovery of the new world was important. Exploring the world gave the Europeans resources that were very convenience. Gold was the greatest convenience resources found during the European exploration (3). When the Europeans were traveling across they weren’t just looking for land and money. They also learned from the Indians and others about their culture (3). Learning about another culture made the explorers bring back some of their culture and share it with the old world. The explorers found lots of resources and crops that they didn’t have, they also found out that the Indians didn’t have things they had, and this is what lead to the Columbian
It is August 2012. I’m rocking back and forth in my recliner, smoking a cigarette. I’m alone in my apartment, surrounded by fast-food trash. Trash on the table, trash on the floor. Trash everywhere. In between drags of my cigarette, I try to suppress a gargling cough that is creeping out of my lungs and into my throat. I do not want to cough. I do not want to be sick again. But I know I am. It is bronchitis and it is my third bout of it this year. I know that I need to quit smoking temporarily in order to get over the bronchitis. Like most smokers, I am always trying to quit. I think to myself, if I have to quit for a few days anyway, knowing that the first few days are the hardest part; maybe I should use this opportunity to quit for good.
Throughout my final ten weeks at my placement, I have grown and overcome so many obstacles. I have accomplished a wide range of skills since the beginning and have been improving on them as I gained experience. At my placement as a student nurse, I have gained a lot of confidence, skills, knowledge and experiences that have helped me act and work in a professional way. All the experiences I have had during the ten weeks of my student years have helped me in shaping me into a professional.
I was born in a little town in Ethiopia. When I was about five, I started school. I was tiny, so all people used to like me especially our neighborhood. We had a neighborhood next to our house that we only socialized with the only girl; her name was Sara, and she was 13 years old. She was smarter than the other kids so my mom would send me to school with her. One day, we were walking inside the school together, and I saw a big hole and there was a mud in it. My life has been the result of many situations that have shaped it; however, it was not until recently when I realized just how well I have it. It took one impactful life experience in order for me to recognize that my life, compared to how others must live their lives, has many more opportunities. Once I realized my great circumstance, it was like a switch went off in my head. I had to take action and make the most of my life by looking at life in a different way.
