High school freshmen rarely, if ever, think about the future and what it takes to make a successful future. I, as a freshman, also never thought about what college I wanted to go to or what credits I needed to graduate. I really didn’t think the grades I earned in my first year of high school would follow me to my last day of college, or even beyond that into my next job. In all actuality, from your first paper you turn in during your first couple weeks of school, to your final graduation project your final year of college, grades matter.
I didn’t know what to expect of high school as I sauntered in the doors as an incoming high school freshman. In my first couple of weeks of school, I learned that it was basically like middle school, just a little stricter with different teachers and a different locker. I asked myself “how bad could it be?” Turns out, that was just the start and I was naive to think it would stay like that until the school year. Middle school English didn’t prepare me for my English teacher freshman year, I started the school year not knowing what a conjunction was. Physical science was a confounding concept for me to grasp, algebra was never interesting for me to learn and it was my first class of the day so I always entered class in a state or tiredness, civics was all about politics. As a freshman, I didn’t need to know politics as a result of the fact I didn’t have to vote for another four years. Disinterest and lassitude caused my interest in learning to abate. Being a volleyball player, I would get home at a late time of night and fall asleep instead of studying for a test the following day or completing the day 's homework. I refrain from saying I was a disgrace as a student, I just wasn’t a particularly...

...lative GPA, also finishing the year on the A Honor Roll.
Now, as a junior, I have come a long way from freshman year. When I turned sixteen, I got a job to be able to help my parents support me and save for college. I’m looking at colleges and am taking college classes. Over the years, I have learned that one person can make a large difference in multiple lives. Anything from raking yards of elderly folks to picking up garbage on the side of the road makes the world a better place. I learned that if you want something, you make that thing happen. I learned that being me, is the best thing I can be, but I can try to be the best version of me that I can be. I can do that by living up to my full potential. I believe that being a member of the National Honor Society will allow me to better the community through community service action and better myself in my education.
