According to Michelle Arrouas (2014), “People aged twenty-five to thirty-two with a bachelor 's
degree or more have a median annual income of $45,000, lower unemployment 3.8% and high
school graduates only make $28,000 and 12.2% of them are unemployed” (p. 1). Students with a
degree have an advancement in the job field along with other things that comes with going to
college. Social experience, developing as a person and improving your child’s future are all main
factors to going to college.
A college education provides advancement in the job field by allowing you to
obtain more income. Vaishali Honawar (2005), agrees when he writes “People with a bachelor 's
degree earned almost twice as much as those with just a high school diploma, according to data
from the U.S. Census Bureau” (p. 10). Employees with a four year college degree earned an
average of $51,206 in 2003, however those with a high school diploma earned only $27,915.
Workers with an advanced degree made an average of $74,602, and those without a high school
diploma averaged $18,734 (Honawar, 2005, p. 10). Ainsworth-Vincze himself writes “In order
for you to be employed by one of the top jobs, you will at least need a university or college
degree, or a trade’s skill” (Ainsworth-Vincze, 2007). A recent study by the Canadian Council on
learning concluded that Canada needs 70% of its workforce to have a post-secondary education
by 2016 (Ainsworth-Vincze, 2007). Evidently, having a degree would be very useful when
having a job. In making that comment Elka Torpey also wrote about needing a degree to be more
successful in the job field. In her article, Torpey maintains that U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics
(BLS) has classified more than 150 occupations that typically require a...

...pportunity to get the college and social experience along with being too able to develop as
your own person. Interacting with your peers at college and getting to know them can be very
helpful in college. It’ll make your feel more at ease on campus and will open doors of
opportunity if you are well known on your campus. You won’t have any one there to take care of
you nor do everything for you, so you’ll defiantly become more independent. The independence
will pay off when it’s time for you to start your life after college and start a family. According to
research, going to college brightens your child’s future and they are more than likely to go to
college too. Along with going to college they will also have two supporting parents that’ll help
them along the way. Therefore, I conclude that college is the best route to take for a bright future
for you and your family.
