Even as a young kid I was always fascinated by computers. I remember watching for hours as my father worked on our first personal computer, waiting for a moment when I would be allowed to play around with it. And when I was given controls, even for a short time, I was thoroughly excited. I was very fortunate that my father allowed me to experiment with our computer. In no time I was helping my father when he got stuck with computers. Since then I have never been able to quench my thirst for knowledge about computers. I have always loved solving math and logic questions. Even during school years I was always looking for opportunities where I could pursue math escaping from subjects like history and social sciences. I used to enjoy solving various puzzles as a child. I never missed a chance to participate in math and science contests. I also participated actively in other contests such as debates and singing. As a child I was never restricted in my opinion and my father used to encourage me to think out of the box. Even at my home I used to enjoy performing various experiments from various science kits I was gifted over the years. I had a small table in my room where I kept test tubes, burners, electricity boards and many other things with which I used to experiment. I proudly called that small section of my room my “lab”. Sometimes when experiment burnt or destroyed something or set something on fire, I had to face my anger of my parents. But it never deterred me from trying something new next time. I came in touch with my first programing language when I studied “Logo” language in my primary school. I was fascinated by its power and whenever I got free time I was constructing some amazing figures with it. Going to graduate school is necessary for me to pursue higher research. Though I have demonstrated that I am a resolute and talented student, in order to become a better researcher I need additional training. I feel I should integrate knowledge in autonomous cars, my grid computing project and some experience into machine learning into a single directed research. According to me University of California, Berkeley with its top quality research support and excellent research faculty, would provide me with this opportunity which I lacked in my undergraduate. Moreover I can come in contact with people from different countries that have similar interests like me and would like to collaborate with me. I believe my research at UCB would contribute towards making world a better place to live.
I was very interested in computers and technology as a child, both playing games and building fake parts for them. Still in elementary school, I was fascinated by these computing machines, spending hours on end working with DOS to satisfy my curiosity. Around my middle school years, Windows became graphical, and I found interest in even more computer games with even greater experiences and capabilities. Windows was the dominant operating system at the time, but I was soon to find there was a whole different world out there of operating systems. While out on vacation in Washington, DC, my Dad and I were able to meet with the local Tech Fanatics group, HackDC. It was here where I discovered Linux. Linux, an alternative to Windows, immediately grabbed my attention when I saw it in use. It appeared to me as something that only the extreme computer users even heard of. Upon my return home,
After his visit to a Shell Research Laboratory, my high school teacher in math told us in class that he was so happy with his education, because mathematics had helped him to understand the explanations and demonstrations that had been given by the Shell researchers. He said, "If you master mathematics then you can understand everything." That was certainly an exaggeration, but it nevertheless sounded like a golden message. Since I definitely wanted to have a better understanding of what was going on around me, mathematics seemed the obvious way to go. Also, if it was not much beyond high school math, then it was pretty easy in addition. What could one wish more? So I enrolled in every advanced math class offered in our high school. Pretty soon I discovered that mathematics was much more than a set of principles that helped one to solve intellectual riddles. It was not a finished system that one could aim to master after some limited time, but it was really a way of thinking, a means of expressing creativity: endless, an old established science, but still fresh and with undiscovered green meadows, nearby and far away.
The University of Arizona's Computer Science Department is a quality research program. The most recent National Research Council rankings place the department 33rd out of 108 PhD-granting institutions nationwide, despite the fact that we are a comparatively small department. In addition, we are the best Computer Science department of our size among publicly funded Universities, with the highest in number of citations (references) per faculty, and 17th overall in the number of publications per faculty.
When I was in middle school, I had totally no idea of what Computer Science is, but I was pretty proficient in using computers at that age. The only thing that I knew about Computer Science is that one of my aunts is in that field and that’s all, nor of my parents are in that major. Not until in High School that I got the sense of what programming is like. I was taught basic simple codings and I really enjoyed it and thought that the class was actually quite fun. But the class didn’t give me any sense of the important real-world applications of Computer Science. Not until recently as I am in the Computer Science major, I started to really have the real idea and to gain real passion for the field. Computer Science is not all about programming.
The computer has been one of man’s most influential inventions, paving the way for greater achievements with time. Today, computers have become an essential component in fulfilling everyday tasks in both our professional and personal lives. Computers are used to store vast amounts of information, and even replace humans in factories throughout the world. We must now ask ourselves, is this reliance on computers aiding the human mind in achieving its full potential or rather replacing it and hindering our progress? Society has now become dependant on computers. How does this machine affect our youth and learning process? We have invented a machine with a greater, and faster learning capacity as our own. A new generation has risen that have used computers for most of their lives so it is not surprising that they have become highly dependent on the computer. As of now, humans only use less than twenty percent of their brains, and with computers doing most of our work, this number is slowly decreasing.
Curiosity killed the cat they said, but people often forget it the satisfaction that brought it back. Throughout my childhood, I have been intrigued by everything around me. There was never a stone left unturned. Question after question after question, I asked until I was satisfied with the answer; it often drew my elementary teachers insane. As I grew older, I matured and learned more, but my childhood curiosity still lingered with me. In middle school, I was introduced to a club called science olympiad. While at first, I was weary to join -- memorizing textbooks and takings test wasn’t something I wanted to do for fun -- I soon found myself relishing in the task of mixing chemicals and doing lab tests. However, when it was time for the state competition, I was thrown last minute into two other events on top of the ones I was already in. I was only given a couple weeks to prepare.
I have always been interested and intrigued by computers, ever since using a BBC when I was very young. Since then I have become fluent in writing BASIC and more recently I have learnt HTML, the language of the World Wide Web on which I have my own wesite. I use computers for most of my exam coursework such as Solving Equations Using Numerical Methods for Pure Maths 2 and also for recreation.
I feel that graduate study at your university will give me credentials to secure challenging assignments and ability to meet the demands of those assignments.
My fascination with computers began from early high school when we had introductory computer classes. Further, programming and graphics lessons caught my imagination and soon computers became almost an obsession. This resulted in my choosing Computer Science for undergraduate studies. Artificial Intelligence is the area where I have chosen to set my foot in.

When I tried new things on my computer, it always st opped me with warning signs. I could not understand what my computer wanted me to do.
Computers are ubiquitous. As our society grows towards being a culture connected through the Internet, and as prices of these machines gradually decrease, more and more have been purchased by families for their homes and as a result, children are beginning to learn to use the computer at an earlier age. Even if computers are not presently available at the home, a child will almost certainly be exposed to one at school or the library, among other places. Adults today are amazed at the amount of knowledge a child has at such an early age – children generally find that computers gives them a sense of power and accomplishment. “A computer is nothing more than a box of circuits that perform software level tasks for a user. Even the software is little more than instructions to the hardware to perform specified tasks. Therefore, a computer, in and of itself is, neither positive nor negative. Its inherent goodness or badness is determined by the user.” With that being said, there are many positive, with as many negative associations that come along with owning a computer.
Children growing up in this generation are experiencing a greater impact from computers than in the past. In the past, children and adult, could make a life without a computer, as it wasn’t a necessity or found to be all that useful from time to time. A higher level of dependency on these computers has been established, and society only has more to come in the future. The technology that comes with these complex machines is becoming more developed and is making everyday tasks simpler for most. Computers have changed our nation in many ways, from the way we operate to the accessibility of worldwide resources such as the Internet we use frequently today. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the fluctuation of the influence of computers on a child’s education in their early years, as it has been in the past, how it is in the present, and how it might be in the future.
