Government Firearm Regulation or Constitution Infringement? Should the United States government be allowed to regulate the possession and ownership of firearms among its citizens? One must consider many things before simply jumping to a conclusion on the matter, things such as: background on the amendment, the amendment itself, constitutional regulation, constitutional law prohibiting or allowing the regulation of the amendment, reasons for gun regulation and banning, historical trials, and reasons for gun ownership. It is hard to understand how one can assure an effective democratic government and rights for the respective individuals of that particular government, should the people not be able to protect themselves from the potentially oppressive reign of the government. It is important to note that The Constitution of the United States of America was established in order to create the most perfect union possible, and to regulate said union in the least prohibiting manner allowable for the security of a free state, and along with it, a free people. Therefore, the founding fathers of our great nation created along with it, the first 10, and arguably most important amendments, in order of which they deemed most valuable to not only the country, but the people. These amendments were not conceived by these men nor by the founding of our country, but to these men, these amendments were the basic rights guaranteed, not by man, but by God, to each and every man (Gun Control 4). The constitution merely compiled these rights into written, and legal, form, and the fact that one might argue that they believe these rights can become obsolete is disturbing (Gun Control 3). Since the inception of the Brady Act, over 118 million applications for firearm transfers or permits were subject to background checks. About 2.1 million applications, or 1.8%, were denied.
On December 15, 1791, the Bill of Rights was ratified effective by Congress. These first ten amendments to the Constitution of the United States of America promised the states certain rights and freedoms which could not be infringed by the government. After all, the founding fathers knew from experience that men in their weakness were often tempted by power. They had become all too familiar with this when under the control of King George in England. Therefore, in order to protect the future people of their beautiful country, they promised certain liberties which could not be taken away. Every single one of these freedoms is important for the United States of America. However, the second amendment is especially important to our nation because it allows the people to protect their freedom and defend themselves and the common good against an overreaching government.
This article briefly discusses the current rights of mainland American citizens and their rights to bear arms. Although it’s an amendment for a citizen of the United States to bear arms, most people today probably won’t ever need to or have to. With that being said, gun control in the U.S. is still a problem year in and year out. I believe that yes, we do have a problem with gun control within the United States. My first thoughts on this issue raised in the article are that the Supreme Court should continue to ban weapons within the District of Columbia.
The U.S. should not have gun control laws. The Second Amendment to the Constitution states that, “A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.” This amendment has been around since 1791, and there has been gun control almost as long as it has been around. The National Rifle Association is an advocate of the Second Amendment and an opponent of those who propose restrictions on guns. Even Presidents Reagan and Bush were members, and Nixon, Eisenhower, and Kennedy were also members.
For hundreds of years Americans have been growing up with the notion that it is a right to own a gun. Since the creation of the second amendment, people all over the United States have been able to guns for private use. Guns operated by the public are said to have a variety of uses such as, being able to protect oneself if conflict arises, grants the ability to put food on the table, and are used in competitions shooting targets against other people. But for many people guns have been seen as the root of all evil. Anti-gun users think that guns cause a variety of unexpected and innocent deaths. They also think that there are not enough laws in place that allow just about anyone to purchase a gun. The question of should guns be legal to all citizens has plagued our society. Do you think it is morally right for anyone to arm themselves and use it when they deem it to be necessary? Or do you think that the 2rd amendment seem unnecessary and outdated law that needs to be rewritten? These questions are just two of many that have thrown back and forth between pro-gun and anti-gun users.
Is it right to guarantee 100% of your rights outlined in Constitution of the United States of America in one area, but only about 90% in another area? The Second Amendment allows citizens the right to bear arms. This topic is very important to every traditional and patriotic American that wants to provide and protect for their families. Americans need to see that guns are not the trouble for all the violence and crimes that are reported on the news. Guns are needed for protection and owning a gun is not unconstitutional.
Anti-gun control activists believe that the constitutional right granted by the Second Amendment should never be taken away because it would completely violate the purpose the bill of rights (LaPierre, 1 of 2). Thomas Jefferson said, "The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government." An unknown author once said, "An armed man is a citizen. An unarmed man is a subject."
We the people of the United States of America has the right to bare arms. So should the United States government abolish the right to own guns? The second amendment states, “ … Right to bear arms shall not be infringed.” Which means that all american citizens that meet the criteria to own firearms should and can obtain them legally. It is an outrage that our government is considering to abolish the second amendment because we as people needs to protect our families from terror, abolishing the second amendment will make the law-abiding citizens in America in a state of constant fear, Also, it will remove a large economic market.
The first reason handguns should be outlawed for ordinary citizens is because their main purpose is simply to kill other human beings. Why would our country allow us to have the right to own an object that is deadly? Our government seems to want to protect us. For example, seatbelt laws and motorcycle helmet laws were created to protect our lives. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) enforces pollution laws to keep us safe and healthy. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) inspects food and tests drugs to make sure American citizens are not harmed by nasty food and dangerous drugs. Yet, our government allows just about anybody to own and walk around with guns. It does not appear our government really cares about our safety. If it did, handguns would be outlawed for the general public, because their only purpose is to kill people.
“The Constitution leaves in its wake a long legacy, forever shaping the fate of many other countries. Whether those countries are currently in a state favorable to liberty or not, it is undeniable that the U.S. Constitution’s principles have caused people to rethink how to organize their political systems” (Hang). Time has only added value to the Constitution, for every time we reference it in our lives it is a testament of our trust and loyalty in what it states about our rights as individuals and the role the government plays in our lives. When it was written, the Constitution was the law of the land that gave people rights they had previously lived without. Similarly, we live lives of choice and independence because of the same document while other countries limit all the rights we are guaranteed in the Constitution. Simply put, “The Constitution is important because it protects individual freedom, and its fundamental principles govern the United States. The Constitution places the government 's power in the hands of the citizens. It limits the power of the government and establishes a system of checks and balances”
Events like the shooting in Sandy Hook and the shooting in a Colorado theater have led many government officials to support gun control laws. Though, many government officials still believe in the 2nd Amendment, which states, "the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." This being part of the Constitution, it gets a lot of people believing in it. However, I don 't believe this is right. The government should not control guns rights to extremes, but it shouldn 't let us have too much freedom. To much freedom is what is hurting people. They need to know who these guns are going to. It 's a very difficult thing to do but they have to keep track of who 's by them and from
Gun control has been a controversial issue for many years. A vast majority of citizens believe that if gun control is strictly enforced it would quickly reduce the threat of crime. Many innocent people feel they have the right to bear arms for protection, or even just the pleasure of hunting. Americans have a constitutional right to own hand guns and stricter laws and licensing will not affectively save lives.

We are no stranger to gun control debate and controversy here in the U.S. We hear of gun deaths, mass and school shootings on the news on a daily basis. Is it safe to say that the U.S. needs permanent gun control laws to protect its citizens or would it be in violation the constitution? The second amendment was written by our founding fathers back in 1791 in a day where it was common for any citizen to own a weapon. Many times we tend to misinterpret our rights as well as we do with gun control laws. As George Washington once said “A free people ought not only to be armed, but disciplined”. Have we shown ourselves to be disciplined enough to have the right to bear arms or have we not, which would explain the massive gun control laws that have passed and been attempted to be approved here in the U.S. Gun control has become a huge controversial issue in the U.S. with the passing of many Gun control laws which lead many U.S. citizens believe to be unconstitutional.
