Goodwill is a not-for-profit organization, continually recognized by Forbes magazine for being one of America's 25 most inspiring companies by consumers.This is no surprise since Goodwill has been serving communities and changing lives since it was founded in 1902 by Rev. Edgar Helms. The Goodwill Industries was formally know as the Morgan Memorial which begun as an outreach program in the south side of Boston Massachusetts. The outreach program was created when Rev. Edgar Helms was appalled by the conditions immigrants faced during the great depression. Rev. Edgar Helms and his church members collected clothing and household goods from wealthier citizens of Boston to give to the poor throughout the community. What began as a charity mission turned into a program to hire the needy and train them to refurbish donated goods.Goodwill today continues to do his work and has employed more than 216,000 people in the United States, Canada and the involvement in 14 countries that include Finland, the philippines, and Venezuela. The mission of the Goodwill locally and internationally incorporates the same philosophy of Rev. Edgar Helms, “People deserve to be able to work.
