GMO’s The Good, The Bad, and The ugly
Thesis: Even though it is helpful in making food resistant to pests and growing more, We
should be more aware of the effects of GMOs because it can damage the environment and It
can have an adverse effect of the human body.
When we put food in our mouths we don’t put much though into it about what it is or
where it comes from, but we should. Most of Americans will consume a diet that contains
almost all genetically modified foods. Since the first modified food was approved for sale the
rapid grown of using genetic modification has grown drastically. Before people would select
specific genes that they wanted from a crop or animal and cross breed them. That way
tomatoes could be plumper, grapes seedless, or oranges juicer. This method worked however,
cross breeding takes time and several generations. ("Genetically Modified Food." Opposing

Dec. 2015) There is two different methods in which one is done by transferring genes from the

...s,
consumers should look for foods labeled certified organic/USDA Organic or Non-GMO Project
or foods with a GMO Guard verified seal from Natural Food Certifiers. (Genetically Modified
Food." Opposing Viewpoints Online Collection. Detroit: Gale, 2015. Opposing Viewpoints in
Context. Web. 15 Dec. 2015.)
Overall there is a lot of issues still with the sale of GM foods because it is still a relatively
new technology with very little testing done to prove that it is safe. However even though the
cost for labeling the food is high I believe that it is a much needed thing. People should try to
stay away from the modified foods because it can have adverse effects as it did on studied rats.
Overall to just play things safe and not to worry what you are putting in your body is to just eat
organic fruits, nuts, and vegetables, and to eat naturally raised livestock.

However, the Declaration of Independence was the culmination of ideas and ideological principles spanning many generations and even after it was drafted, it was far from complete or whole....   [tags: United States Declaration of Independence]
