In March of 2013 I was notified that I would be losing my job in 90 days due to our contract with the State not being renewed. As you can imagine the news brought on many fears for me and the five hundred other employees who were affected. At first I was in shock and remember driving home that evening questioning over and over again what had just happened. The next day when I returned to work, it was very somber in my office. People were walking around still in disbelief of the news. As the days progressed I needed to start making decisions about what I wanted to do next with my career. Did I want to stay with the same organization in a different department or did I want to find a job closer to home since I was commuting 85 miles each way?
Initially, I thought I wanted to stay with the organization therefore I applied for several jobs and went on various interviews. A month before my job was being eliminated I was offered a position that I had applied for. The position had the same pay grade I was currently in therefore I assumed my salary would stay the same. However, when...

Leaving Work and Going Back to School for a Brighter Future Essay

- Leaving Work and Going Back to School for a Brighter Future I thought about it for months, sleepless nights, draining my energy, do I quit my job and go back to school or do I continue to work. My family has begun to suffer; my oldest child is now first grade, my youngest is four. To continue to work means working only for family insurance and to pay the daycare to raise my children. Will they ever know the joy of summer breaks before it’s too late. Are their tiny brains being overloaded with school work and not enough play and imaginative exercise....   [tags: Personal Narrative, Personal Experience]

- Going back to college after you have been out of school for quite a few years, had three children, been married, and divorced is a lot harder than I ever imagined. It takes hard work, dedication, and missing out on the little things previously taken for granted. I miss taking naps the most. I believe if you can tough it out through the worst days, you can finish school and provide a better life for your children and yourself. You need a lot of willpower and a large sense of humor. Set your alarm at least an hour before you really need to get out of the bed....   [tags: Personal Narrative, Personal Experience]

Essay on Is It Worth Going For School?

- Is it Worth Going to School. Two years ago, if you ask me which college would I go to, I would probably ask you, “Why should I go to school?” When I thought school had no purpose but to measure and compare students as if they are apples and oranges, I refused to conform to these metrics that society has imposed to standardize individuals. Schools and its college applications were more like big corporations posting job vacancies and applications, which is the coveted key to get out of poverty. Almost everyone that I asked cited some economic purpose behind schooling....   [tags: Higher education, High school, College, University]

Going Back to the Basics Essay

- Going Back to the Basics Education is a very sensitive topic to discuss among adults. Many adults want the education to be based on a system of ideas that is progressive (which is a system high in the aspect of individuality), some want perennialism (which is the teaching of philosophies that have stood the test of time over hundreds of years), and some, like myself, want to take it back to the way it used to be (essentialism). Education as defined by Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary is “the action or process of education or being educated.” I believe that the way education was presented in the past worked well and that education should remain to be taught the same....   [tags: Teaching Philosophy Education Essays]
