Education is an important factor in a person's life. People often choose to move from their countries of origins to study in foreign countries for varying reasons. Most individuals consider studying abroad as a way means of changing one’s view of the world, and as a chance to explore (Monroe 1). Many choose to study in developed countries that offer progressive education (Jasmine 5). Other students move to study for programs that are either not offered in their country of origin, or that are better than what is offered in one’s home country. Due to the fact that everything has its advantages and disadvantages, the process of acquiring education abroad has both its challenges and benefits. The process involves complying with and following major steps. It also requires one to overcome certain challenges during the process that equips one with skills, knowledge and experience that promote an individual’s discipline and self-dependency.
The initial step of acceptance involves submitting as many applications as possible to various universities that offer the program one desires to study abroad. The applications are made by filling forms and other required documents obtained online or from university offices, and which are essential for acceptance in universities. The necessary application documents should be attached to the application letter. The applications are submitted to the required platform, where they are reviewed by the relevant personnel, who then make decisions on whether the application is eligible for the applicant to join the university. Learning about new cultures is my favorite thing to do. I interact well with others and enjoy networking with new people. In addition to spending more on the actual education and university fees, the international students also have to spend on boarding and food. Finding a place to stay that is conveniently near to the university and other places of interaction, is affordable, accepts immigrants, and suits the basic requirements - is hard, sometimes impossible. A compromise on at least one criterion of the above is required to sustain in the new country.
Visiting Europe has been a long dream for me, especially visiting Italy. Italy has fascinated for as long as I can remember. Italian history and culture has always been intriguing to me ever since I learned about the Roman Empire in elementary school. I’ve always had Rome as my number one place I want to visit in the world. However, due to my financial status, I never had the chance to go to outside any country except the United States and my native country, Peru. Being in college has given me the opportunity to study abroad in a place I’ve always dreamed of. My university, Loyola University Chicago, have their own campus abroad in Rome, Vietnam and Beijing. Studying abroad is a dream for many people especially, who live in a country that has lacks education. It is possible that a dream realized for those who they want. However, it has many consequences, causing lack of livelihood to adapt to the different languages and cultures. Eva Hoffman, author of “Lost in Translation” wrote about her experience when she moved from Poland to Canada as a teenager. She felt as a “felt persona” when she merged with Canadians with different culture and language. Also, she felt as a woman who has two different figures, causing a lack of acclimatization. International students face many different challenges when studying abroad. This is due to many factors. First they are living in a country very far away from their own. The country they are studying in also has a very different way of life than theirs. Also the laws in foreign country are much different than the laws in their own country. Due to that they face a lot of problems trying to adapt to this new culture. Me personally as an international student in the US studying in ASU have faced three particularly difficult challenges that I was able to overcome through time. Have you ever thought about studying abroad? No, not just for a few months for your work-experience, but a whole year (or longer) as a transfer-student. Of course, you don’t make such a decision from one minute to the next. It needs to be thought over well. Going to college is a big change in your life because it usually means living on your own for the first time, but as a foreign student it is even a bigger change because you are on your own in another country. This is often the greatest concern for students to go abroad: to leave everything behind. They have trouble leaving their family and the familiar environment. They think this price is just too high. But if they only knew how rich they will be when they come back.
