As we all have noticed our summer days are getting warmer and warmer in the community we live. Just yesterday it was 100 ºF, equivalent to 38 ºC in the city of Newport news, and today is 91 ºF. The temperatures are constantly rising and so does the floods and many other natural disasters. These are the results of one common environmental problem, global warming. According to the Oxford dictionary, global warming is “A gradual increase in the overall temperature of the earth’s atmosphere generally attributed to the greenhouse effect caused by increased levels of carbon dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons, and other pollutants.” Global warming can affect us in a local and global level. But for the purpose of this project we will be focusing on the …show more content…

There are millions of solutions to this immense problem that we can make possible. Some solutions include: using less heat and air conditioning, changing the regular light bulb in our homes to LED bulbs, buying energy-efficient products, using less hot water, saving electricity in every way possible, driving a fuel efficient car or biking, recycling the list can go on and on (West, 2015). Recycling is a great way to stop global warming. According to Pratt (2007), “recycling reduces greenhouse gas emissions from landfill, can reduce deforestation, save energy, and produce more energy-efficient products.” When you recycle, you can significantly decrease the production of industrial waste, therefore, decreasing the pollution. Recycling is also environmental friendly, recycling simply decreases the cutting of trees. Trees are our friends since they absorb carbon dioxide and give off oxygen. Some limitations of recycling can be the fact that they might be not cost effective and recycled products can be not durable (“Recycling Pros and Cons List,” …show more content…

Biking can be good for you and for the world. Biking does not burn any fossil fuels, thus making it a great solution for global warming to replace our cars that do burn fossil fuel and emit carbon dioxide. A new study shows that riding bikes could save the world $24 trillion (Hurford, 2015). However, if you have a long distance to commute and biking does not work for you, fuel-efficient cars are eco-friendly and can be your solution in preventing global warming. There are many pros to using a fuel-efficient car. As nationwide, an insurance company, reports these cars are environmentally friendly since they use 30-60% less fuel than traditional automobiles, they have higher gas mileage, higher resale value, and easy maintenance. Since these cars are comparatively new, they have not been perfected yet. The limitations can range from limited space, long recharging time, and shorter driving range
