The NOAA refers to “global warming” as an increase in Earth’s air temperatures near the surface. Each year a global average temperature is produce from thermometer readings all around the world. The recorded temperatures show that the Earth has warmed 1.5 degrees Fahrenheit. They have been recording temperatures from 1880 and these records showed the biggest increase since 1976. “Climate change” refers to a long term change in the environmental conditions for a place and a time. These conditions include temperature, rainfall, humidity, cloudiness, wind and air circulation patterns (National Climatic Data Center).
According to the EPA (the United States Environmental Protection Agency) the Earth’s climate is changing. Temperatures on Earth are rising and snow and rainfall patterns are shifting. We have recently seen this as we went all winter with some snowfall but not like the winters I seen as a child; then in March Storm Titan hit us; local schools were closed for an entire week. A lot of people blames this kind of weather behavior on global warming. As the climate changes it causes extreme climate events including heavy rainstorms and record high temperatures. “According to the EPA, scientists believe the climate can be linked to the increase in greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. These gases are said to be caused by people burning fossil fuels to generate electricity, used to heat and cool buildings and power vehicles. The EPA is working with organizations to better understand the cause and effects of the climate change” (Environmental Protection Agency).

Global warming is also a threat to humans. Climate change makes many disease and conditions worse and pests and pathogens spread. The warming of Earth also impacts species and habitats across America.
