Globalisation
In this essay I would be examining how globalisation has affected business influence on industries in developing nations and what impact does is have on our environment.
I will begin by briefly reintroducing you to what globalisation is and what changes in brings. Then I will move on to answering the first part of the question referring to a few resources and examples, during this discussion I will also state my opinion on this matter. The second part of the question will be answered in the same manner as the first one. After the main body of my argument I will summarize and conclude.
Globalisation is the process by which the world is becoming increasingly interconnected as a result of massively increased trade and cultural exchange. Globalisation brings many benefits such as freer movement of capital, goods, and services; bigger companies are now able to operate in more than one country and because of that there are more jobs in less economically developed countries (LEDC’s). Of course there are a few disadvantages such as an intense competition and widening gap between rich and poor countries.
First, I will examine if globalisation actually has strengthened and benefited industries in developing nations.
One of the major advantages of globalisation to LEDC’s is that trade barriers are significantly lowered or removed completely. This promotes and encourages exports to new countries because before LEDC’s simply could not afford to export their goods to major countries such as USA or UK due to high import taxes they have set, so it was simply not worth it. ...hat idea from functioning properly. From the evidence and statistics it looks like globalisation did more harm to developing nations than it did good. That might be because bigger countries can manipulate IMF, World Bank and WTO to their own advantage without actually breaking any rules. To me, globalisation just seems like a peaceful way for rich countries to rob and exploit poor countries. I agree that in some developing countries globalisation was beneficial and boosted their economics growth, but there are not that many examples of that, I would say that those countries are an exception because according to World Bank statistics the majority of LEDC’s with strong import liberalization have experienced anemic or negative growth over the past 20 years. So all in all I believe that globalisation is a great idea and concept but it is not suitable for today’s world.
Globalisation, in the simplest sense, is economic integration between countries and is represented by the fact that national resources are now becoming mobile in the international market. Globalization over the past twenty has become an issue in many countries. This industrialization of second and third world countries by Western Civilization creates many opportunities for the inhabitants. Not only does it expand trading markets, but also promotes productivity and efficiency; thus improving the country and integrating it into the industrial world. This process not only benefits third world counties, but also industrialized nations by allowing them to export goods to the developing world and increase their profit margin.
Our global world is being more connected as we become integrated politically, socially and even economically. Due to the Bretton woods agreement, different countries have been economically dependent on each other in fear for war to erupt. From then on different organizations and policies tied more countries into being economic globalized. This economic globalization had then given us many opportunities in trades and more access to natural resources in other countries. Unfortunately, there are some negative effects that are brought to less developed country. Overall, many people believe that economic globalization does a great work on accumulating our economy and our quality of life.
Globalisation is the idea that bring businesses, technologies, services and goods to spread throughout the world. It empowers globalized companies, such as: McDonalds, Starbucks. It also increase trades for developing countries to developed countries and it gets the developing countries to trade with other countries around them or even countries overseas.
We say that we are heading toward a more global economy because of the fact that competition in today’s markets is global. This means that corporations in the United States can compete in foreign markets and vice versa, therefore U.S. corporations and foreign corporations become interdependent and thrive off each other. This can have a good impact on the United States because it allows U.S. corporations to seek materials and labor outside of the U.S. in countries such as China, India, and Mexico, where workers are paid a lot less money than U.S. workers, thus allowing them to sell their products for significantly cheaper than if they were produced in the U.S.; however, the tradeoff is that many American workers in the industrial sector lose jobs due to this shift of labor to overseas. In the long run this will be beneficial for the U.S. and although some percentage of workers are losing work, new jobs in the services sector, in fields such as computer technology, telecommunications, and language skills are opening up and experiencing growth because of this change.
The development of free-market economics has, since the 18th century, resulted in the spread of a set of ideas, creeds and practices all over the developed and much of the developing world. Today, the globalisation of trade, capital, technology and innovation has accelerated competitive conditions for businesses all over the world. Globalisation may be defined as the opening of markets to the forces of neoliberalism and capitalism; it is characterised by the free movement of people, talent, skills, capital (intellectual, social and economic) across international borders. All kinds of barriers have either been swept away, diffused or made obsolete by the forces of globalisation: trade barriers, subsidies, geographical boundaries, linguistic and cultural differences. Technological advancements have pulled the world closer and, in the process, affected how labour relations and worker/employer relations operate and develop. The multinational corporation as well as the public sector alike are affected by global competition.
(Bilton et al 1996:5) The process of globalization has certainly had many changing effects to the world we live in; it has also changed the way many factors operate. Globalization is said "to have transformed the structure and scale of human relationships that social, cultural, political, and economic processes now operate at a global scale with a consequent reduction in the significance of other geographical scales. "(The Dictionary of human geography 2004:315) Globalization has had both positive and negative effects on a local, national, international and global level. Globalization often brings benefits at one level which cause negative effects at another, these results and the scale at which they manifest are often uncertain and unpredictable.

Globalisation is a broad term that is often defined in economic factors alone. The Dictionary at merriam-webster.com describes globalisation as “the process of enabling financial markets to operate internationally, largely as a result of deregulation and improved communication.” Also due to deregulation on the financial market, multi-national companies are free to trade and move their businesses to areas where a higher return or profit can be achieved. New technology also enables companies to relocate to areas where labour costs are lower, for instance movement of call centre jobs from the UK to India.
International trade has directly brought massive economic interests, including achievements of wider sales, investments and labor markets around the globe, acquisitions of rich profits for developed countries, and promotions of inter-country economic and technical corporation(Hill, & Jain, 2000). For the developing countries, international trade can make them integrated into economic globalization quickly, and gain enough sources of money and technology in and international economic cooperation, get help and cooperation in manufacturing and operation, thus raising the range of national economic and technological progress (Narlikar, 2003). Now, before I bash globalization it is some positive I would like to discuss. Globalization is great for the American economy; we can supply the world with our goods and services, which in turn can possible, relieve the deficit we’re in. “Homegrown industries see trade barriers fall and have access to a much wider international market. Globalisation refers to the process of the integration of economic, political, social and cultural relations among people, companies and governments of different nations and countries. It is a process aimed improving international movement of goods, services, labour and capital. This process also has a direct impact on the environment, culture, political systems, economic development and prosperity, and a human physical wellbeing of societies in the world.
“Because it is widely seen as inevitable and nearly inalterable, globalisation is often presented as a force that must be embraced without reserve, but doing so benefits some people while putting others at grave risk.” (Timmnos Roberts J., Bellone Hite A., 2007). Globalisation has been a widely discussed topic and a frequently used term to describe the worldwide movement toward economic, financial, trade and communications integration(ref). Globalisation is a process of raising integration and inter-dependence between countries around the world. It can be shown from greater trade in goods and services, massive transfer of financial capital and technology, better specialisation in production and more labour migration between the world’s economies. As highlighted the booming of the four largest emerging economies, which are named as BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China), is one of the most successful results of globalisation. Nonetheless, little attention is paid to the different problems behind this rapid global economic integration.
Globalisation is a very complex term with various definitions, in business terms, “globalization describes the increasingly global nature of markets, the tendency for transnational businesses to configure their business activities on a worldwide basis, and to co-ordinate and integrate their strategies and operations across national boundaries” (Stonehouse, Campbell, Hamill and Purdie, 2004, p. 5).
