The German Jets

For our whole lives we have seen big jets fly across the sky carrying people or maybe even cargo getting dropped off some where, but have you ever wondered where they originated? The scientist in Germany during the World War 2 era invented the jet engine. It started out with the rockets that the VFR made then it lead to rocket planes and jet planes. The history of jets that the Germans made in World War 2 started with the rockets made by the VFR (Verein Fur Raumschiffahrt). The Rocket testing started in Berlin in 1930 that would change the face of warfare forever. The very first rocket that the VFR tested was launched in August 1930 named Mirack-1 (Minimum Rocket-1). The next year in April 1931 a scientist named Atosnabruick Reinhold Tiling launched four solid-fueled rockets, but he did not work for the VFR. One of the four Rockets that he launched had reached a height of 6,600 feet in the air at 700 mph, which was very amazing for back in those times. He then made and launched two more rockets that were even more advanced than his first four. Amazingly one of his two rockets reached a height of 32,000 feet in the air (German Rocketry in World War 2). Then in the spring of 1931 the VFR designed and tested the Mirak-2 which was similar to the Mirak-1. It was not as great as the rockets made by Atosnabruick. The VFR’s next project was a rocket series by the name of Repulsor which was named by a VFR member named Willy Lee. Repulsor-1 was tested on May 14, 1931 and was successful reaching a height of only 200 feet. The Repulsor series rockets keep getting better until it got to the Repulsor-4 which reached a height of one mile, which must have been amazing to see (German Rocketry in World War 2). In 1932 the VFR membership dropped ... ... middle of paper ... ...f the Me-262s left the hangers, because they were destroyed by allied bombers. Out of the 1400 Me-262s that were produced, only 300 took flight (Me-262). Out of the 300 that took flight two thirds of them were lost in accidents. The main thing that doomed the GAF was the lack of raw materials to make all of their jets and rockets due to the bombing runs the allies had. That made the newly made Me-262 unstable which lead to all the accidents. That also made them slower and not as reliable (Werrell). During flight some of the planes would break up or the canons would just jam (Me-262). That is basically were the jets originated back in Nazi Germany with German engineers. With out it we might no have had jets until after the war was over or not at all. I am just glad that the Nazis did not actually win the war and the planes not working did help with that.
