1. Introduction While Bahia (2008) suggests that genre as text types is evoking and developing dynamically under the influence of two main issues: discipline and registers (Halliday 2004), Coffin, Donohue and North (2009) propose each type of genre carries a rather stable generic stages /schematic structure, which could be divided into obligatory stages and optional stages as per whether or not a stage more or less has to be there for the genre to work. Thus, this paper in the following sections firstly identifies the general generic stages of the collected online job advertisement samples according to the classification of genres and generic stages proposed by Coffin, Donohue and North(please see the Chart 1 in section 2). Then it tries to find out the obligatory stages and optional stages of online job advertisement with discussions provided in the angle of registers (Halliday 2004), which exams used language in three dimensions: filed – “what is being talked about”, tenor – “who is involved in the communication and the relationship between them” and mode – “how the language is functioning in the interaction: for example, whether it is written or spoken” (Thompson 2004). All findings and discussions are based on the 20 collected cross industries online job advertisement samples. 2. Generic Stages of Online Job Advertisement As shown in following Chart 1, considering all samples were written in present tense in Lexicogrammatical aspect and seemed to serviced “classify and describe phenomenon” social purpose rather than others social purposes list in the Chart, online job advertisement should be taxonomic report genre under the genres and generic stages classification standard proposed by Coffin, Donohue and North(2009). That ... ... middle of paper ... ... under each stage, the article points out that the two stages are also obligatory in the view of the participants — employers (tenor) and their purposes: in the first stage employers made clear about the concept of the job positions and included company background information to attract readers to apply; in the second stages employers applied some strategies to help to achieve communicative purposes. However, as mentioned before in the introduction section, genre is evoking and developing dynamically. It is understandable that there may be changes found in other online job advertisements. The fourth characteristic states, “A discourse community utilizes and hence possesses one or more genres in the communicative furtherance of its aims.” (221). Swales defines genre as different types of communication, not just verbal, but also written. Genres of a discourse community could be group messages, online posts, emails, notes, and more. There were several new concepts that were introduced to me this semester including the topic of genre. I found out that it was more than a classificatory tool. According to Bawarshi and Reiff, genre has changed into “a shaper of texts, meanings, and social actions”. In other words, genres are used to change and influence social interactions and to produce meaning-

...n social sites fits their company’s culture or not, less than half wants to know about the qualifications of candidates online and others look for reasons not hire candidates from their social media sites,”. Employers screen profiles of job seekers and existing employees, pictures depicting their life styles, the kind of comments they make online-whether discriminatory or not, their communication skills, and for any form of image degrading information on their social media sites. They make choices as to their ideal candidate highly based on the information gathered online about their identity. Meeting requirement or standards of an employer online is virtually the same as passing a “face to face” interview with a well drafted résumé. The online identity that the youth gradually build from been a teenage to a job seeking adult determines their fate in the job market.

Social network profiles are the most essential tool to judge job applicants because it reflects a good image of the job applicants. For example, if the company is recruiting a writer, it would be better to choose a person who has a blog web page in a blogging website such as Word-Press that shows and reflects his/her ability in writing. In addition to that, a Human Resources manager can check this person’s Facebook and Twitter in order to see his/her grammar and writing skills. This information provides accurate and complete picture about the candidate. (Fish & Lee, n.d). Moreover, social network profiles can prove the application as it shows applicant’s participation in many fields. For instance, when a recruiter enters person’s blog that includes art and design work, it will show his/her passion to work as a designer in the company. Therefore, it is important to judge applicants based on their social media profiles because it shows a good image of the person.
