A genetically modified organisms (GMOs) or genetically modified food can be defined as organisms that have their DNA altered by biotechnological procedures. These procedures make genetic manipulations in organism by transferring the genes from one organ to the other in order to get a desired result. The results from gene alterations give characteristics that the original food do not have at the first place. Some simple examples for genetically altered food would be a seedless orange, pest-resistance crops, and bigger apples. GMOs are commonly used to improve food cultivations or production by improving the harvesting yield, or by rising the food nutrition values.
“The first commercial food product developed from gene splicing was the FlavrSavr™ tomato” (Bruening and Lyons, 2000). The Flavr Savr™ tomato have its genes changed to avoid breakdowns of tomato cell wall when it was ripped off , in which make the tomato keep its stability intact while the shipping or the storage time have taken long periods.
The main purpose of this research paper is to illustrate the point of view of GMOs on four main groups: Farmers, Consumers, companies and industrial agriculture by focusing on their point of view, arguments, their reasons and concerns regarding GMOs.
