Genetic Engineering

In the 21st century, times are changing. Everyday objects are becoming ‘perfect’ with alterations to their system. These alterations are not only occurring on man-made objects, but also on natural organisms, such as newborn babies. Science has come a long way to being able to have the capability to alter pre-born babies to a parent’s desire. There are four arguments that can be considered when discussing this topic, including nature and three others. While many scientific minds are all for creating ‘perfection’ in a child, many different groups of minds are arguing this act against nature should be abolished from scientist’s minds. A major group against Genetic Engineering is the Religious groups in the world.

Genesis 1:27 “So God created human being in his own image”. Scientists are changing this exact method. While they may look the same, inside each of these altered humans are changed genes that either a scientist or guardian has chosen. God has been the creator of humans since the dawn of time and each of them have been in his likeness. Man is now the creator. God will soon be giving just the template of a human while science will fill it with what fits in with the time. Eventually, science can alter the human race so that they shall go against the idea of god’s creation. Are scientists trying to play God? One man, Adolf Hitler, tried to play to play God, by eliminating the races that didn’t fit into his plan, eventually his Arian, ‘perfect’, race would be left. Everyone disapproved of his ideas, yet most people don’t even have a worry about Genetic Engineering. The complete flip-side of Religion, Nature, also have a negative view against Genetic Engineering.

Four sides of Genetic Engineering that all display arguments against it. While nature and religion don’t usually go well together, Genetic Engineering goes well against what they are both trying to put across. One, God is the creator of all and that is how it shall be, the other, don’t disrupt natural order otherwise there will be a price. While the advantages of Genetic Engineering may seem convincing, one would have to consider the un-altered children at what shall happen to them. Finally, the way a parent is may result in a child turning out with a slight or major disadvantage, in this case deafness. All these sides show just how much of a mistake that Genetic Engineering is.
