Gender norms affect health outcomes for male and female but in different ways as discussed in this article. Masculine norms is the key study, when discussing the relationship between gender norms and health. Gender plays a huge role in health. How one acts determine what category their cultural, society puts them in. If how one behaves goes against the gender norms set then the individual can be condemned which can lead to a person being depressed. The article also discusses how conforming to gender norms can affect an individual’s health because what works for one set of people does not always work for another (everyone’s built differently). The author discusses how men take on high risk so that they can prove they are built for anything. This risky behavior proves that one is masculine but also causes major health complications. Is this do to gender social construction? In certain situations, yes. Women are expected to be caregivers, which is a full-time job that in turn takes away from being able to have time for physical activities. Women are told that it is unattractive to sweat and be “fit”, therefore a lot of women fear gaining muscles because they feel as though that would make them less attractive. Due to social norms women are faced with a lot of constraints and decision making.
