Typically in the US, women are paid seventy-seven cents to a man’s dollar for the same job. Everyone should be treated equally in every aspect of life, especially for compensation of the same work and the same production. Being fairly compensated for the work being done regardless of color, ethnicity of sex is the true meaning of equality. Thanks to diversity and progression women have more presence in leadership positions in the workforce which is bringing the issues of pay gaps to the forefront of politics, human resources, and even in social circles. If the President were a woman would she receive a difference in pay than her outgoing male counterpart? The same applies to executives, as well as all employees. This contemptuous discrimination against women continues unchecked until there is a separate law or policy written and enforced specifically on the gender pay gap.

Historically women have always assumed the role of caregiver and have no choice in staying at home to care for the family. In present day some women go to work while men stay at home and look over the kids and the house. Many people in today’s society still maintain a traditional view of a family unit and have a mentality that the woman should stay home take care of the kids, the husband and the home. As more women became college educated the dynamics of the traditional family changed as well. Today, many women are earning higher wages than men due to education. While these advances become more common in society the fight for equal pay continues especially for women in lower paying jobs.
