This is something that is taught to the young boy. Same goes for the female as well. Now gender focuses on to express dominance distinction between women and men. This can be problematic by causing a high need to distinguish the difference between both genders. This results in gender discrimination by trying to find this need of finding a clear line between male and female. By doing this, labels of what is means to be one gender or the other gender are created.
Media portrays inaccuracies and misconceptions of what the cosplay world is actually like, including inaccurate representation, sometimes using gendering, in cosplay. Media creates these types of conflicts regarding gender by how poorly they represent female and male cosplayers in media. Media misrepresent both genders by attempting to set a social rule for cosplay, by highlighting heavily gendered aspects such as how women can only do make-up, but men have the advantage in everything else regarding cosplay. In the Syfy show, Heroes of Cosplay, one can see how the female cosplayers heavily rely on their male counterparts to have their outfits created and finished in order to enter their work into the competition. Even worse the female characters still claim the work done by help from their male friends, partner, or family members (Scott, 2015). Doing this in a competition at a convention can be seen as cheating. So, not only do they show women who cosplay as unable to do their own work, it also tells people that being dishonest when crediting others is okay, as long as they are women. ...by gender, such as the idea that males are excused more often when it comes to their activities in their fandom and interests compared to females. Television shows such as The Big Bang Theory and Heroes of Cosplay, give viewers the wrong idea of how the cosplay community actually works. In the show, The Big Bang Theory, it portrays the main characters as nerds with very scholarly jobs. However, when it comes to one of the females in the show, they do not give her a last name compared to everyone else because it was not important, and as long as she is pretty no one would actually care, almost like she serves more as an object for the show instead of actually being a character. I do agree on a positive note that the show makes, being a nerd seem kind of cool, but at the same time it is kind of demeaning when it makes the female characters seem unintelligent and needy.
