Contrary to popular belief, gender discrimination still leaves an indelible mark on the lives of many to this day. Throughout history, many have faced discrimination due to their affiliation with a group that is seen as lesser in the eyes of the majority. One of the most rudimentary classifications such as sex, a mere coincidence of the ultimate race, can be the determinant of someone’s fate in regards to lifelong prosperity regardless of their talents or skills. Discrimination is deeply rooted in a society that is reluctant to acknowledge the issue. The systematic use of gender as a factor in determining the profession one would be best suited for creates pressure on individuals that would not otherwise be present. The results of gender discrimination are differences in pay for equal work, poorer performance of the minority in the institution, and extra stress not normally experienced by those belonging to the majority. Thus, gender discrimination affects us all.
