The film “Gay Parents: Co-Parenting families” by Watson (2007) discussed the topic of co-parenting compared to adoption and segregate with gay parenting. It appears a four member chronosystem exercise the norms and value of society expected there is one small minor detail. The minor detail is a big problem. The detail is that the four member family is gay. Families are self-defined by domains in their culture and belief. It is a standard of living within a chronosystem. Family continues to changes with the interaction of other norms and values. The social pattern of norms and values is that families offer emotional and financial stability, comfort, and security. According to “The Friends and Family Plan: Contact with Gays and Support for Gay Rights” by Lewis (2011) reads, “ In 2010, 21 states (and DC) prohibit anti-LGB discrimination, 5 states (and DC) allow same-sex couples to marry, and a dozen provide more limited recognition of same-sex relationships, but 29 states have amended their constitutions to prohibit same-sex marriages, and 10 more have statutory bans. Changes in public opinion have had a major impact on those state actions, as would be expected with an “easy” morality policy issue (p. 217).” Regardless of the constitution’s ideal of marriage union, five states accepted same-sex marriage as Lewis (2011) brings to attention. Experts explain and described the change of social structure well with conflict, feminist, and symbolic interactionism. Conflict theorist describe adoption with gay families as a process of change with institution within a social structure. For example, the shift in power in individual or family roles that alter a set norms and value for the social structure. Feminist would descriptive the process as changes from inequality and equality shifts affecting individual and family roles. Symbolic interactionism would say the words and meaning of label shape the interactions that define a social structure. However, the question that should be asked is how do I define the changes of norms and values within the chronosystem? Family is self-defined. We can not change are family, only ourselves. Without resources this can be problematic as a social problem. According to textbook “According to textbook “Social Problem” by Korgen & Furst ( 2012) reads, “child neglect is positively associated with family poverty, and taken together, these two predictors are associated with increased risk of PTSD, crime, and lower academic achievement (chapter 8).” Today, I can identify with Korgen & Furst meaning to neglect which allows me the redefine norms and values. The redefine norms and values changes my chronosystem that affects the social structures on a macro and micro economic. It is for the greater good that I continue to learn. So, I do understand the process of change with with norms and values. Yes, because I do not have to choice deviant behavior that restricts my rights and agreement to sociality and family
