Marriage is a commitment of private love between two people, yet homosexuals have been denied the right to make their marriage recognized in most states in America. The people who are against gay marriage believe in protecting traditional marriage between a man and a woman (Jones). They argue that homosexuality isn’t natural, therefore it shouldn’t be accepted in our society. Also, they say that a child can be raised best in an environment with a mother and a father, and that having gay parents will result in their child being gay (Hansen). Many religions, like Christianity, Judaism, and Islam, deny homosexuality, and since marriage is a religious ceremony, many believe that it would be wrong to legalize homosexual marriage because it goes against its principles(Jones). Also, people argue that marriage is mainly for reproduction, and the reasons for marriage are not fulfilled within a gay marriage. Ryan Bilodeau explained his views as to why gay marriage should remain illegal in his article “Gay marriage is unnatural”.

According to Bilodeau, gay marriage is unnatural, therefore it can not function properly, and that marriage is monogamous, yet many homosexuals have outside lovers. He explained how “both the media and the public school systems have become promoters for a gay subculture. For example California state employers must promote Tran sexuality as a civil right or risk a $150,000 fine” (Bilodeau, 1). The article went on to say that sex’s function is to create offspring, and gay sex is not doing that, but rather creating more cases of AIDS than strait sex. ...he common thought for a long time, people oppose the idea of same sex marriage fore it is odd and unnatural. If love is what brought a marriage between a man and a woman, homosexuals should have the right in making their love permanent. In our constitution it reads that all men are equal, so it is difficult to understand why gay couples are being denied the right that all heterosexual couples have. Many people believe marriage is for producing offspring, yet millions of heterosexual couples grow old without children, since having children is either impossible or undesirable to them. I believe homosexual couples want to be treated like others, and a major step in that direction is to have their love and commitment recognized by the state (Jones). Our society should come to realization that equality is critical in creating a safe and healthy living environment.
