"The great model of affection of love in human beings is the sentiment which subsists between parents and children." as time goes by, things change. What was popular, and normal, in the 70s has changed. The older generation always wonder what had gone wrong with the younger generation and the younger generation also wonder why parents can`t understand their needs. The don`t know how to deal with the differences between each others and that has lead to a gap between parents and children. The interests ,food, habits ,slang , entertainment and also the way of thinking of the younger generation differs from the older generation. These changes are indicative of progress, Unfortunately, The older generation find it hard to accept these changes that make the gap wider. They differs in the way of dressing for example, the younger generation wear jeans and stay up to date in their style unlike the older generation .As the older generation has their own style according to their age. So the older generation might find these outfit inappropriate. Also the difference in slang and language fr...
The #1 thing that makes the millennial generation different from the others, is the advancement of technology. Other generations had a need of staying focused just as Julie does, while people like Maggie from the millennial generation has the urge to multitasking which can be a distraction depending on what needs to be done. Lastly, millennial looks forward to the latest trends and staying up-to date with the latest gear and technology, while other generations were more traditional and stuck with the culture they were born into or
As Andres Tapia mentioned, “ To be young is to be experienced”. Millennials have a different perspective about how to success in life. Since millennials are born during this current era, they have an advantage over people that were born before. With the inclusion of technology, it is easier to learn and apply new knowledge than before. A good example is the “Apps”. It is only necessary to create an app that attracts the interest of many consumers to start making money. Finally, Millenials have the ability to adapt and evolve. Millenials are the representation of
We have movement in today’s society. With lateral movements we remain inactive and with upward movement we upgrade ourselves in getting education, practicing sports, etc. Both movements are caused by many factors in our daily life, yet they are the effects of what we experience in the past. Misguidance, love, affection, neglect and leadership come from our nearest cluster or family. In “Justice: Childhood Love Lessons”, Bell Hooks points out that “when children are overindulged either materially or by being allowed to act out”(463), it is an example of a form of neglect. Mary Phiper also portrays the effects of lack of love, parenting and neglect within our most fundamental base in our society, the family. In “Beliefs about Families”, Pipher argues that “family need not to be traditional or biological” (379). Although, a family does not need to be traditional or biological, it has tremendous effects on communication, love, misguidance and neglect. Thus, if parents do not guide their children well, dysfunctional f...
The coming of age theme is evident seen in the teenagers of the new generation. They were nothing like the traditional teenagers in the early 60s. Girls were not respecting their parents, girls' clothing were to over rated, girls choice of clothing were not appropriate to the older generation. Young girls did not worry if every man turned his head to look at them, for the clothes they had on. The older generation worked hard and put a lot of time in raising their younger girls up, to be respectful young
In the conclusion, I would like to claim that the word "owe" does not undermine the role of mutuality and love, rather it just works to strengthen the responsibilities that is to be fulfilled by the children towards their parents.
For example, each one of us experienced a generation gap with our parents where we were either viewed as delinquent juveniles or a generation heading in the wrong direction. In the 1950s the problem that arose between teens and their parents was the new freedom and growing economy after the war. With this freedom and growth came liberty of thought and more money to spend. It was more common for parents to give their kids money than in the past for food and clothes. A new kind of music was introduced as well and teens were buying and popularizing a genre not listened to or understood by their parents. Rock and Roll was and an ununderstood new wave in American culture and was believed to be poisoning their children and future generation. Just like rock and roll today teens and young adults still have a generation gap it just comes in other forms. Technology is today’s misunderstood rock and roll of the 50s. Technology by many is seen as a form of rebellion and that the generation that has grown up with computers, cellphones, etc. are not adequate for the real world. Because of this rock and roll and technology have a lot in common when it comes to social critique as well as my grandmother and I share this generation gap
Unlike Robert Sternberg’s Triangular Theory of Love, Fromm’s theory is derived from a humanistic approach explained through five different types of love: motherly love (one-sided and unequal), brotherly love (loving all), erotic love (intimate but short lived), immature love (overwhelming), and mature love (mutual and caring). Motherly love is a one-sided and unequal or unconditional love commonly given by mother to her younger child which gives the child a sense of stability and security . Brotherly love is a type of love where an individual loves all. Opposite of brotherly love is erotic love which the individual focuses on loving one individual in a sexual way, this is short-lived. This type of love is comparable to the passion, intense romantic or sexual desire that is accompanied by physiological arousal in Sternberg’s theory of love. Immature love is when receiving love or taking love overwhelms the giving of love. Lastly, mature love, is described as love in which both partners share mutual care and responsibility for each other and both individuals are able to love each other freely. Mature love is achieved when both individual’s personalities are capable of giving true, genuine love (Friedman & Schustack, 2013). Mature love is also comparable to consummate love (Myers, 2013) in Sternberg’s theory of love. Fromm’s theory of love does not just emphasize
In conclusion, the affect of the relationship largely depends on the quality of communication between parents and children. The parents’ may need to examine their children’s objection, and vice versa. This can be shown in “Romeo and Juliet”, “Her Father” and “My father thought it Bloody Queer”, where all parents have lack of communication with their children. They show their parental love by deciding what the best is for their children; they insist their children to do as they are told. As a result, children attitude begins to change as their parents have neglected their feeling. This causes suffering for parents and children which may end their relationship.
In life, the moment we grow up is the day we start to visualize the future. Questions like, “How will I maintain this job?” “How will I begin a family?” “When will people start to recognize me for my talents?” “Will I ever fulfill my dream?” start to arise. Also, many other questions are being asked all the time, but since we are all different, everyone’s life questions are not the same. Matter fact, the easiest answer to our life questions are the lessons we learned at home and the lessons we were taught as kids. Therefore as kids, we learn all of these unique different lessons from our parents or family in general. Dedicated and responsible parents or members of the family know that children are the future. A family’s job and presence is to provide children with a feeling of belonging and creativity of their identity. Families should be a source of emotional support, comfort, protection, and etc. The relationships we create and mend creates our future self mentally and emotionally. Love is a strong word that cause us to either become strong or weak as an individual. Love comes and goes, but we start to realize that only unconditional love we really need is the love from our family. A family’s love is what causes us to grow into the person we should become. The theme of family is presented in a way to build the character’s charisma and how much support becomes a lifeline.
In the short story Who’s Irish by Gish Jen and Everyday Use written by Alice Walker, both authors address generational conflicts between mothers and daughters, as well as struggles to coexist while living in very different cultural mindsets. The moral of both stories is that cross-cultural issues exist in every family tree and we often find comfort in unlikely places. While a mother may not agree with her daughter’s choices she never loses love, and while a daughter may not like decisions that are made by their mother she never loses respect. Both are stories about women going through struggle to integrate and adept into modern American life, two mothers struggle to understand their daughters and the lives they are immersed in.
I will list some general characteristics of people who belong to each of these generations. However, be careful not to stereotype and make certain assumptions about an individual because of their age. Many members of the younger generations moved far away from home in hopes of getting rid of their parents, only to find that they'll be working with them. To younger w...
As time goes on a gap is created between the past generations and the current generations. This gap between men in the 1950s and the men now (2009) are similar and different in terms of the roles they play, their attitudes towards society, women and work, and their identities. The root to the generation gap in India is due to the influence of media especially television and movies have caused people to look up to the characters and strives to act like them, which reinforce gender stereotypes and identities. For example, Love Aaj Kal, an Indian movie released in 2009 is a contrast of couples in the 1980s and present day. In the movie one of the actors says, “Aaj ke ladke bauth modern aur independent ho gaye hai. Hum aare zamane mein baath hi kuch aur thi” (Veer Singh). In translation, it means that, “Boys these days are very modern and independent. In our time things were different”(Veer Singh). The following are many different ways to interpret what the actor was trying to say about men then and now in regards to roles, attitudes and their identities.
Young people’s future and how they are going to act or communicate with other people they are going to meet in life are depend on their parental love. Parental love is really important for kids because it will shape them into who they are in the future. It gives the children the sense of love and how important it is to have someone take care for them. There are kids that do not know who their parents are or they do not get their parental love even though they live together. Some children resent their parents because their parents do not give them enough attention, time and care for them. They decided to spend their time on the street more than at home because they do not get enough attention from their parents. It’s the parental love that shapes kids into who they are, they want to be loved and care for, and who they want to be with.
The generation that I was born into can sometimes be easily misunderstood by those in earlier generations. The individuals in my generation get thrown many different labels such as those that Rosie Evans (n.d.) listed in her article, “Millennials, Generation Y, the Lost Generation, boomerang kids, the Peter Pan generation…” and more. This can impact us as a whole because some will begin to live by the labels, in some cases that can be negative but in others it may be beneficial. Many people in this generation believe that they can’t reach their full potential due to labels and prejudgment, while there are others believe nothing can hold them back. When we get labeled all together that is also what may drive some to try to stand out from the
