Global Communications is company that wants to expand it’s market and broaden its horizon like any other businesses out there. Their company is starting to diminish and there is a need to do something quick about it. In the past three years, their stock has depreciated in value and there is a great deal of competition.
The head of the company has come up with a plan to revive the company, but in some cases of having a business you have to loose some to win some. What they plan to do is to market more aggressively, contain new services,and partner up with more providers of cable and wireless. Another thing that Global Communications plans on doing is to outsource its call centers to Ireland and India and cut cost tremendously. The Issues comes in as to how they are going to communicate this to each other and to the employees who will loose their jobs throughout the whole situations. “Communication is the ingredient to employee satisfaction”(11:5) which is a very true statement, problem is not every employee will be satisfied with every company’s decision.
There are a few concepts that could very well be an opportunity to help the situation on communication. The company has used electronic emails and meetings to provide their ideas and details with one another as best as they possibly can despite the troubles that can happen with using E-mails. The biggest issue with Global communications is how to necessarily us the organizational Hierarchy with the rest of their employees. It is very difficult coming up with decisions that might not please everyone in the company or even worse make them look bad while they are taking great measures to pull themselves from their financial bottom

One of the communication concepts would be using what we call electronic email. Email can mean wonders in the business because it increases communication, it’s great when you don’t have time to travel across the world to say a message and you can send it from anywhere. “Specifically, it reduces some face-to-face and telephone communication but increases flow of information higher levels in the organization”(11:11) Although it serves as a great medium and another generation on communication, it also can create unwanted confusion.
With the company of Global Communications, they often used the email to communicate their ideas and conflicts of what they were going to do about the local employees and maximizing their business.

They effectively got their points across which was what they intended to do but they still couldn’t completely come up with a solution until they could all meet with each other.
The other communication concept would be the Organizational Hierarchy. This explains what happens with the communication between the top and the bottom of the Global Communications pyramid. The main focus for the company was to expand its market by opening call centers in India and Ireland. By doing this they would expand their business and do so by a cheaper price. This would mean they would have to lay off some employees and even cut the salaries for the employees who decide to move to these places. The best way to participate in communicating with employees is by doing it directly at a meeting, that way you can cut out all the middle men and get straight to the point. “All of these direct communication strategies potentially minimize filtering because executives listen directly to employees”(11:74)
With Global communications, the executive team felt that they could not communicate with the employees just yet because the outcome for them would not be so good. The opportunity for them to use was to tell it directly to them the best way they could and explain how Global communications would have to do it to save the company. Even though they would become angry, loose their jobs or receive a pay cut, they may be able to understand the reasoning for the company as a whole.
Most companies have a male CEO behind them but in this case, Global Communications is firmly ran by a female. It is said that women can be too soft or to easy to run over but it has proven to be false in this company. It is also said that women and me communicate differently. “In reality, men and woman have similar communication practices, but there are subtle distinctions that can occasionally lead to misunderstanding and conflict” (11:56). In most cases, it is usual for a male to talk about straight facts and say straight up what we need and have to do, where as females would usually make suggestions. This could be seen as an opportunity because we have both side of humans where the company can demand what they want without making someone so mad that they don’t want to go through with the decision.
Another issue could be using the communication tool known as the grapevine; “grapevine is an unstructured and informal communication network founded on a social relationships rather than the organizational charts or job descriptions” (11:75). Inside the Global communication scenario, one of the executive of marketing and sales discussed that the team should hurry and come up with something before the employees find out before hand. The problem with using grapevine is that people can hear the wrong thing or feel betrayed because they didn’t hear it from “the horse’s mouth”.
The opportunity to the situation is that if they hear it through the grapevine, they can soften their own blow, start making plans on what they are going to do or already have questions for the executives when they finally tell them what’s going on.


Stakeholder Perspectives/Ethical Dilemmas
There are a few stakeholders who will be affected in the situation on how to grow a company without getting the lower level employees upset. One of the key stakeholders is Global Communications itself ; they’re interests involve making more profits, excelling in production and outsourcing its call centers for half the cost. What they value is social responsibility because the consumers were asking for more products and specialties. The consumer is what is going to grow the profits so they want to put more focus on what they want. They have the right to fight to keep their company and do what it takes to not fall into default or bankruptcy.
Another Stakeholder would be the Union; their interest is to keep their employees afloat and secured. Global communications has already taken away benefits in hopes to make company better but it has not happen yet. The values that the Union possesses are accountability and respect. They want the respect they deserve for making the company what it is and wants the company to be held accountable for taking away their jobs. They have the right to try to keep their jobs and security that they’ve had for some, years
The Marketing and sales sector has the same interest as Global Communications. They want to see more profit also but they value fairness and honesty. This part of the company really wanted to find another way to gain profit because they thought it wouldn’t be fair to take the local employee’s jobs and send it across the sea. The marketing executive believed it wouldn’t be fair to anyone to take the muscle of the company away and hire cheap employees who wouldn’t know what they were doing for at least a couple of months.
In conclusion, there are many issues that can either stop the situation or help the situation. Using these concepts are really opportunities for the company to grow and communicate with one another. Having different stakeholders believing in separate ways to expand the business can be difficult but if the means of the right communication

There are of course females and males in this corporation. They are all people and created equal but there is still some difference to communications. Inside the Global communications, you have men and woman both serving as high positions. It is said that men are more straight forward and to the point where as women would include intensive adverbs . Having both men and women in a company team making decisions is a great opportunity because you can get both sides of aggressiveness but at the same time not applying so much pressure. Which are the two most important ingredients in persuasion “In reality, men and woman have similar communication practices, but there are subtle distinctions that can occasionally lead to misunderstanding and conflict”(56:11) Report vs Rapport
In the communication scenario, One of the executives pointed out that they would have to let their employees know what’s going on before the information got to them in the wrong manner. No one likes to be told what happened before the key person tells you because then it feels like betrayal. By having the grapevine communication, the local employees would be able to bond and relieve some of the anxiety while or before hearing it from the people on the top of the pyramid. They can already come up with their own concept on how to deal with the situation or also have ideas on how to change the situation if they have to dicuss the matter in a meeting “grapevine is an unstructured and informal communication network founded on a social relationships rather than the organizational charts or job descriptions(11:75) Grapevine
