Gangs originated in the mid 1800’s in the cardinal direction using it as a method to defend themselves against outsiders.The idea of gangs became populous, powerful, and a broad influence. But like all powers, they tend to corrupt and recognizes violence as a way of getting what they want faster than other methods.They turn violence into fun, profit, and control.Creating a situation that affects youth in today’s society. After the American Revolution in 1783, gangs began to emerged. In 1826, the northeast region was the first ever to have a well organized gang formed in Rosana Peer’s green grocery in New York City. Soon after the migrants of the African Americans and Latinos, black gangs began to appeared in 1950s, as well as the emerging of non-Puerto Rican, Asian gangs in 1980s. The midwest region in Chicago,white immigrants developed a street gangs including Irish, German and Lithuania people to terrorize the African American communities, it became as race riot. Mexican American gangs soon popularize itself in 1950s.By 1970s, street gangs surface among popular areas in California.In 1980s, gangs began to dealt with the dealing/ consumption of crack cocaine. The southern region had not have a gang like activity, only within Miami and San Antonio in 1980. According to statistics, criminal street gangs in the city has a total of 65,271 memberships with an increased of 242 in March 1998. About 34% of deaths between 2010 and 2011 and in total of 32,000 gun deaths per year in the U.S. Around 60% are suicides, and 80% are homicides (gun related) due to the fact that half of American citizens owns a gun. What draws juveniles to the gang lifestyle? Many people will say that most gang members are children from impoverished communities, single family homes where there was no father present, or maybe there is a more psychological/sociological answer? By appearance and presence most gangs cause fear, crime, and disillusionment in the communities they occupy. Throughout history joining a gang has been perceived as a life without any reward, yet by joining this lifestyle many juveniles are able to gain the needed stability and security in their lives.
