A database management system (DBMS) is the main software tools of the database management approach because it controls the creation, maintenance and use of the databases of an organization and its end users.
There are several functions that a DBMS performs to ensure data integrity and consistency of data in the database. There have ten function of database management system. there are data dictionary management, data storage management, data transformation and presentation, security management, multiuser access control, backup and recovery management, data integrity management, database access languages and application programming interfaces, database communication interfaces, and transaction management.
The first function of database management system is data dictionary. Database management system has been perform management functions to the elements in the database and how to connect the relationships with other data. When the system requires data in a database that will facilitate DBMS via SQL to access and search data. So that users can easily handle it. Data dictionary is used by database Administrators and Programmers and data dictionary is frequently hidden from the user.
Data storage also one of database management system. Database Management System has a primary function as data storage. Today`s, the sophistication of database management system it can store data in various types such as video and pictures. Users do not need to know how the data is stored or manipulated.
