From a Non-English Speaker to a College Student My day started as usual, after I woke up and prepared my coffee. When I checked the To-Do list, the first thing on the list was checking the mail. When I went outside, it was a nice weather that made me feel that it is going to be a good day for me. I entered the house and sat on the couch. Then I started to check my mail one by one. There was a white fancy envelope with a golden title that got my attention. I immediately opened the envelope to see what it was about; I couldn’t believe my eyes. It was an envelope of victory, encouragement, and success. After many discouragements, struggles, and disbeliefs of my academic success, I knew my journey had truly begun.

All the inducted students gathered at the backstage getting ready to be inducted. The students were dressed formally; they were from different age groups and ethnicities, the only thing that unified us was glory and joy. When the ceremony started we proceeded to our seats on the stage, guided by a member of the student organization. After that, the Dean of Phoenix College made a speech and gave a turn to the other members of the Honor Society. When they were done, we lined up to start the induction. Our names were called one by one; along with claps and vows of the families and friends, we paused to take a picture with the dean. Then we each lit a candle and gathered on the stage to take a picture together. When the induction ended we went outside for refreshments and share the joyful moment with our families and
My middle school’s dean smiles while handing me my certificate. I gave her my best fake smile and stood in line with the rest of my classmates who made the honor roll. I put my medal around my neck, held my certificate in my left hand, and put my right arm behind my back. I can’t believe I left my jacket in my mom’s car.
If I am chosen as a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. I will work hard to uphold the reputation and exceed the standards that those before me have set. I was thrilled to hear that after that your efforts towards conceiving a child have made your goal become a reality! Being inducted into the National Honors Society is what I have been waiting for. Becoming a member is nothing more than a dream come true, and I appreciate it greatly. If I am to be chosen as a member I know that I will be a positive and dependable participant in society activities. Due to my abilities and past experiences, I can be considered a valuable candidate because I demonstrate the qualities of leadership, service, and character. I do feel that if I am chosen, I will do nothing detract from the prestige and respectability that is associated with the society.
...lings that overcame me: it was the first time I felt as though I was important, the first time I felt as though I was a scholar, and most importantly, the first time I felt as though I belonged. I want to be an active voice on campus and in the classrooms; I want to be a role model to the diverse student body; I want to branch out with the opportunity given by GS; and most of all, I want to grow into the leader I dream to become.
As I look to graduate, I become increasingly aware that I have my entire life to look forward to. Even though I will have struggles throughout my life, I still have my well being to fall back on. When all else fails, I am and hopefully always will be self-assured that I am here, healthy and able to bring myself through the worst of circumstances.
Coming out of my senior high school was one of the most difficult tasks I 've been given up to this point in my life. I was overwhelmed, excited, sad, busy, and uncertain of the near impending future. The past 13 years of my life I had been studying, practicing, playing, and working my way towards a brighter future. I could see the future in front of me, it was as if I could reach out and touch it. It was almost like getting a shot at the doctors, I knew it was what was best for me but I was terrified anyway. But I pushed aside my fears and on August 8, 2015, I set foot on a college campus, my home for the next four years. I knew why I was there though; I came to college in order to channel the love I have for my country into the motivation necessary to take the next step up the ladder towards a constitutional law degree, a degree I’ll use to protect this country and the people who reside in it. But to truly understand why I came to college, I have to start at the beginning.
Being accepted to college can be the most exciting time of a person’ life while also being the most disappointing. According to an article from Forbes, titled “Too Poor For College, Too Rich For Financial Aid,” author Robert Farrington wrote a story about his daughter’s college application experience. She patiently awaited to hear back from her top choice school, the prestigious John’s Hopkins University. After months of pure anxiety, a giant envelope arrived in the mail. The colorful exterior gave away the seemingly great news that the envelope enclosed. After opening the envelope, her acceptance letter revealed itself. According to Farrington, at first, the family was over joyed. Their kid got into her top choice college! But after moving
Today, as we graduate, with degree nearly in hand, I challenge each of you to make a difference in whatever you do. Remember that life didn't end when we re-entered school. Life continued throughout our program. Even when stretched to the limit, life only got more challenging. And now, graduating, life only changes pace. Our degree completion is not really an ending as much as a new beginning as we re-enter our lives of work and home. We thank all of our family, friends, instructors and co-workers who helped see us through this process. Thank you for this opportunity and good luck to you all.
For my “How to do” speech my goal was to share with the class an interesting and informative way to learn something new. Due to the speeches time limit, I knew I needed to be well prepared. I wanted to be less nervous before and during my speech. While presenting I was nervous, but I didn’t really have time for these feelings to sink in because I was focused on the information I wanted to share with the audience. I enjoyed presenting in the second group of speeches so I could see my peers different types of speaking style. The audience seemed alert and interested in my topic which made it a little bit easier for me to speak, because there weren’t any distractions in the room from people not paying attention. Valedictorian Speech Good evening fellow graduates, teachers, family members, friends, and distinguished guests. It is a tremendous honor to be the valedictorian of our graduating class. My job is to somehow be the voice of the entire graduating class, and take five minutes to say a few words on behalf of all 539 of us. Like most valedictorians, writing this speech was not an easy task for me. Not because I did not have anything to say, but because I was overwhelmed by how much I wanted to share with you all on this day. Tonight, we have one common purpose, to celebrate. We are here to congratulate, to look towards what the future holds for us, to wish each other well, and to, most importantly look back on our time spent here. So, I would like to start by saying 'well done' to my fellow graduates, who have all worked hard during the past several years to reach this milestone. I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to the graduating class for selecting me to speak here tonight. Ever since the news broke, many people, some who've I've never really met before, have come up to me and have wished me well. In order to successfully deliver an oral presentation such as a speech, the speaker must follow certain procedures to ensure his message can be conveyed clearly. Vast amounts of research are essential in order to acquire the knowledge necessary to be able to speak about a topic comfortably and answer any questions the audience might have during the course of the presentation. After acquiring such knowledge about the topic of the presentation the speaker will feel more confident, confidence is key in delivering speeches and other oral presentations because it makes the speaker look more credible and trustworthy. Ever since the first day of freshman year, I put forth all my energy towards academics: I payed attention in every class, asked questions if I didn’t understand anything, took notes regardless if the information was or trivial or not, and studied rigorously until late in the night. Then, I heard everyone scream “Surprise!” I could not believe my eyes. There was decoration all over the living room, a cake on the table, music and a big bouquet of pink flowers. My eyes start tearing. I was delighted and humbled by how lucky I was to have such an amazing family. I ran up to my parents, my three brothers, and sisters in law and hugged all of them. We started singing and dancing I cannot forget those moments of my life. Then I realized time was running and that I still had to go to my cousin’s house to do my makeup. I rushed to her house leaving my family at home, so they could get ready, and we could later celebrate after the graduation. As, Sandra was putting on my makeup; I was thinking of how I was going to react when they called my name on the stage. I was smiling as I was thinking of the moment of my
Graduation: the last day that I would unwillingly set foot on the fields of Horizon High School. I could feel my heart beating out of my chest, and tried so hard to keep my feet moving one after the other in order to maintain my perfect stature. After the two hour wait of opening speeches, class songs, and the calling off of the five hundred plus names that were in front of me, it was finally my turn. As my row stood up and we walked towards the stage it had set in at last, this is it, I am done. My high school career ended on that night, but it didn’t close the book that is my life, it only started a new chapter, and with it came a whole slue of uncertainties.
