The French revolution was a time where political and social chaos took place from 1789 until 1799, it was also the first nationalistic movement that accepted the ideologies of liberty, equality, and brotherhood. The french revolution gave people a new way of thinking to abandon the idea of divine rights and slavery. The french revolution triggered a global decline in absolute monarchies and replaced them with mostly democracies and republics. The causes of the french revolution could have been for many reasons including the Enlightenment, anglophile feeling in france, and the american revolution, however the revolution has definitely took place because of the lack of change in the french system. The first stage of the revolution was Louis XVI clining to absolution with no good response to the poor’s problems leading to there being …show more content…

The French Revolution obviously had a major impact on Europe and the rest of the World. France lost many of its people trying to escape political tensions and save their lives. A number of individuals settled in the neighboring countries mainly (Great Britain, Germany, Austria, and Prussia), however quite a few also went to the United States.
The French revolution was good because it displaced many Frenchmen which led to a spread of French culture, policies regulating immigration. The impact this had on France was overwhelming, because it shaped politics, society, religion and new ideologies. The closer the countries were to france, the greater and deeper was the French impact, bringing liberalism and the end of many feudal or traditional laws and practices. However, the negative effects of the revolution were a conservative counter-reaction that defeated Napoleon, The reinstalled the Bourbon kings, and the reverse of some new
The French Revolution started during 1789, it allowed for the people to have a better government that actually protected the natural rights of the people. This toke a nearly a decade of rioting and violence for the Third Estate to have their way and get the rights they deserved. From all the causes like the famine of wheat, long debts because of wars, the heavy taxes, and their rights not being protected, some causes stood out more than the others. It is noted that these reasons had to play a major role in order for the French Revolution to occur. The three most important causes of the French revolution are the ideas that came from the Enlightenment, the Old Regime not being an efficient class system, and the heavy taxation.
One more long-lasting effect from the French Revolution is nationalism. They called fraternity at the time, but both words share the same meaning. The French people fighting for their right to survive and later to protect their borders from foreign powers seeking to restore tyrannical order, produced a sense of pride and brotherhood. No longer being forced to front lines by an unseen monarch hundreds of miles away, the French people started to find, close to heart and empowering reasons, to defend their
One of the main results of the revolution was the ancient regime was abolished. This started to make France’s people more equal. A document was created that outlined France’s peoples rights, it was called the declaration of the rights of man and the citizen. People were to be born with equal rights (doc 4). Many of the “rights” given in this document were not truly given to the people of France. There was supposed to be freedom of speech, (doc 6) but the papers were monitored and people could not support certain things without fear of imprisonment. People were arrested for having different views from those in power (doc 5).This did not create complete equality in France but it was a start. Also, a republic was set up in France for a very brief time. The republic was in place after the death of Louis XVI, and then after Napoleon was removed from power. The French revolution not only had affects on people in France, but also in many of the surrounding countries. The French revolution had many impacts on the countries outside of France. When Napoleon came to power in 1799 he started a conquest. He was able to conquer much of Italy and germany among the many other countries he was able to take control of. When he took power somewhere he imposed his own political code. Even after the countries were freed from France, some did not immediately get rid of his laws. Some cities like Naples kept is for a while (doc 7). This was just one of the several ways in which the French revolution affected surrounding
The French revolution may not seem like it did much for the world, but in reality it helped mold a lot of nations into what they are today. The French revolution started in 1789 and ended in 1799. The revolution started off small but quickly changed into a major thing. Some important things in the revolution are its people, battles, and how it affected the nations that we have today.
The French Revolution was very controversial time period with many different aspects affecting it. The French Revolution was a time in French History, between the years 1789-1799, in which the French citizens fought to abolish the monarchy and put in place a new democratic system. As it was a large event spanning over a decade, there were many supporting elements which majorly influenced the revolution. The French Revolution impacted society by allowing the people to have rights and the ability to not be controlled and taken advantage of by the Aristocracies. Regardless of the work performed, each person and family would have their needs met so that nobody would suffer without food, shelter or medical care. It took years for the French Revolution to come to an end. Hundreds of thousands of lives were lost so that the survivors could obtain a better life for themselves and future generations. People whom thought that they could not make a change or a difference became inspired by the wisdom of the philosophers. The philosophers promoted education and intelligence through many different aspects. Most importantly, the people were taught how to stand up for what they believed in and not to be controlled or intimidated by the society that ranked above them in power, wealth and control. The French Revolution did indeed bring about philosophical and political changes, and most certainly promoted the growth of a new
For one the monarchy was making decisions not in the favour of its people and inevitably leading French to its death. The wealthy didn’t have to pay taxes that were unfair and bringing down the middle class. 97% of French were middle class and were struggling to survive. In Europe the quality of life was determined on the status you held, and to get an upper class status you had to born into it. You couldn’t earn a higher status no matter how hard you tried. France was in debt at this time because of losing the wealth in the Seven years’ war this is the same circumstances as the American Revolution. In 1788 the French government went bankrupt. The lower class were getting annoyed with the upper class wasting money while the poor go hungry and are offcourse poor. The peasant was also hungry because all the harvest was wiped out by bad weather and all that was left was expensive food and very little of it. The French Revolution in a way was similar to the American Revolution because its was an argument that went out of control resulting in these historical events and there government going bankrupt.
Before the revolution, life in France was still observing feudal rights. The monarch, nobles, and the clergy lived a life on the back of the people. It was a very dark time for the peasants with no light in sight. The large mass of peasants grew poorer and living in famine. Crime was the way of life for the peasants because food resources began to become scarce. Leading up to the revolution, the beginning of a middle class began develop. This new class would be the leading force for the revolution in France. After the revolution the French Revolution failed to establish a representative government or a constitutional monarchy. Before the revolution, France began with an absolute monarchy. They completely abolished the monarchy by cutting off the king’s and queen’s head and ended up with Napoleon Bonaparte. The French revolution did give the people a taste of liberty, equality, and power, but that was short lived. The co...
The French Revolution began in 1789 and ended in the late 1790’s (staff). Just like the American Revolution the French Revolution started with new ideas of enlightenment. French citizens started to uproot everything that was considered normal, things such as absolute monarchy and the feudal system, they wanted to redesign everything (staff). Although a lot of the attempts failed people continued to try to make the change.
The French and American Revolutions were both revolutionary then and still today. There are still lasting effects from both the French and American Revolutions. The French Revolution had lasting effects such as the birth of Nationalism and making a huge move away from Monarchism. To us Americans the lasting effects are obvious from the American Revolution. We still live in freedom with the same system of government set up by our early political leaders.
In order to understand the causes of the French Revolution we must first understand the separations within the French society at the time. The population was divided into 3 states, the Clergy and the Nobility which were the first and second Estates, both of whom did not have to pay taxes and were given privileges such as high positions in the army and civil service. The Third Estate consisted of everyone else, the pheasants, farmers, landless labourers, serfs and the emerging middle class called the bourgeois. 80% of the population was rural and were very highly taxed by the king, like the rest of the ...
The French Revolution represents a period in history that brought about a major change in not only Europe but the entire world. The French revolution spanned from 1789 to 1799. It brought about several key changes in not only the economic state of France but also the perception of the Christian church, specifically the Catholic church in France. Its impacts both economically and religiously are still felt to this day. The French Revolution may have temporarily destroyed Christianity in France, however, it acted as a savior for the future of Christianity.
The French Revolution had many causes. According to the historian, French people revolted because they were, “intelligent, free, and prosperous to be critical of the existing conditions.” In other words, this historian is saying that the people of France knew what was going on in their country. I agree with this historian and this quote. There were conditions that existed in France the people were aware of. The ideas of the Enlightenment, social classes, and tax system contributed to the French Revolution. The French Revolution was based mostly on the Third Estate’s desire to obtain liberty and equality.
The French Revolution, which occurred from 1789 to 1799, was a time where the monarchy was overthrown, a republic was formed, and limits were put on the church. The French Revolution ended with the rule of Napoleon Bonaparte in 1799. The French Revolution created France’s legislative assembly, which is still in place today. Many would argue that the Enlightment was a cause of the French Revolution, but the Enlightment was not one of the main drivers for the Revolution. The bad living conditions, France’s monarchy, and the involvement in the American Revolution and other wars caused the French Revolution.
