Andragogy is a term used for adult learners that is to say, the age group to be counted as an adult learner would be someone in their late twenties meaning 26 and older. In 2012 an estimated 3,759 students ranging from 35 years and older attended a higher level of education according to National center of educational statistics (nces.ed.gov). Parents would benefit to learn the phrase “It is never too late to better your life”, this saying can help adults think about going back to school. I chose to focus on parents going back to school because they tend to put their lives aside, for their families and not focus on their selves as much. There is advantages of going back to school like all the recourses available. Parents should take the positive outlook on life, and further their education to benefit them in being a role model to their children.
Most parents feel the need to stay home to take care of their children. I myself grew up in a home where in the day my mother stayed home to take care of children, and at night she went to school as a medical assistant, but as we began to grow up she decided to put her education aside, and put her full attention into her children. Parents often fear that they have missed their chance to go back to school, or they do not have the time, but there are possibilities that need to be explored. While growing up I heard my family always say the motto “it is better late than never”, referring to anything I missed my chance on, or gave up on. Unfortunately, my mother and other parents like her have not gotten the opportunity to fulfill their dreams, and forward the steps into andragogy like others adults have.

...ildren want to get on the path of going to school as well as, how it is beneficial. Parents do not need to worry about child care there are other solutions in solving this problem like day cares on campus and online classes so parents do not have to leave children. Andragogy is the next step in furthering parents to better their life plus learn that there is more than parenting and just focusing on other people. “It is never too late to better yourselves.”

I decided at that moment that I would return to school and graduate with my bachelor?s degree. I made a promise to myself that I would finish my education. If I complete my education, I would make my parents proud of me. Plus, I want to be the first person on either side of my family to attend graduate school. Adults return to college primarily because they desire a higher paying career or a professional job. This could be a registered nurse, an elementary school teacher, a policeman or an attorney. It could also be an accountant, a journalist, a librarian, an interior decorator or a beautician (Smith, 2001).
Every single individual has once heard the words “get good grades, go to a good college and graduate, in order to get a good job and succeed in life.” However, no one can really assure that a student with a degree is going to have a better future than those who do not attend college. Lawrence B. Schlack, a retired superintendent, asserts in his article “Not Going to College is a Viable Option” that college is not the only place to go after graduating from high school. By using different kinds of persuasive techniques the author effectively supports his claim and makes the article an understandable and important tool for both parents and students who believe that college is their mandatory option after high school.
School is not compulsory and parents are not bound by law to send their children there. Parents are bound by law to educate their children but that doesn’t necessarily have to be in school (Mountney 13). Making sure that children can read, write, and learn basic skills is a task that parents should support. Children can learn different matters now, compliments of the internet. Public libraries and local museums Students are engaged in learning because the curriculum is selected specifically for each individual and is based on interests and needs (Butler
According to Jim Rohn, “Learning is the beginning of wealth. Learning is the beginning of health. Learning is the beginning of spirituality. Searching and learning is where the miracle process all begins.” Education plays a major role in the every society, which can hinder one or enhance one’s mind. The key to learning is staying focus and wanting to grasp information that will help one pursue higher education in the near future. Home and public schools both have their pros and cons, but they both instill knowledge within the students. When it’s time for kids to go to school, parents must decide what type of educational environment would be better for their child. The best solution is to find the perfect learning facility that the individual
Single moms are the most affected and providing childcare on campus is very beneficial to them. More than 4 million women attend two-year public institutions or community colleges, and more than 1 million of them are mothers. Many student mothers struggle to stay enrolled all the way through graduation. Most of them are more likely to drop out of school, and the reason is because most often there is no affordable or available childcare and the students have limited financial resources. The average daycare center cost for an infant is higher than a year’s tuition and fees at a public college. It makes affordable on-campus child care a necessary provision for students. Childcare on campus helps to contribute to the learning
I was raised in an encouraging household where both of my parents greatly valued education. Although they were high school graduates, neither could afford to attend college; a combination of family and financial woes ultimately halted their path. As a result, my parents frequently reminded me that getting a good education meant better opportunities for my future. To my parents, that seemed to be the overarching goal: a better life for me than the one they had. My parents wanted me to excel and supported me financially and emotionally of which the former was something their parents were not able to provide. Their desire to facilitate a change in my destiny is one of many essential events that contributed to my world view.
... dollars aside from now until your future children determine if they would like to attend college or not. Is the ten dollars a week going to be worth it and are you going to be done paying for your college education as well? In the article, “America’s Most Overrated Product: The Bachelor’s Degree”, author Marty Nemko informs readers on aspects that are not commonly considered when pursuing higher education. Encourage that child to explore all of their options and inform them on not only the positive things you acquired from experiencing higher education, but the hidden down falls you dealt with like managing work loads and paying off debts. A student should be passionate about what they are learning and although it may not be in a classroom setting, sometimes choosing the path less traveled and not attending college can be the most rewarding experience known to man.
Enhancing commerciality to acquire a better job position, teaching your children of the importance of education through example, and an increasing in personal satisfaction and enrichment are all outcomes of going back to school. An environmental fear of campus life is a real thing for adult learners. In 2013 there were 8.2 million adult students compared to the 12.2 million students under the age of 25. The rates of increase for adult students are expected to increase higher than students less than 25 years of age according to the national center for educational statistics. The demand for MBAs and the attendance of professional schools is increasing. A master’s degree is almost mandatory in order to obtain a 6-figure career. The support of family members helps whenever the overwhelming feeling of loneliness begins to creep in. My son telling me he’s proud of me nearly brought me to tears and so I encourage everyone thinking about going back to school to dive
As stated earlier, the cost of college is too high and it needs to be reduced to a more reasonable amount. It is expected that young adults in this day in age would want to go to college or another post-secondary education school to receive higher learning and to somewhat better their lives. While this is true ...
The screeching decibels of my alarm clock woke me at five-thirty that morning. Football practice the day before completely destroyed my body leaving my arms and legs almost unmovable. All my strength was used to stand that morning. My brother told me to stop complaining and get ready for school. He was older and always bossed me around. “I don’t want to go to school” I exclaimed! “What are you going to do, sit at home and stay dumb?” He said. That is not a bad idea I thought. I can teach myself. I imagined the possibility of being homeschooled. I knew homeschooling was not an option for me. My mother worked two jobs and was hardly home to check my homework. If it was an option, homeschooling would be my choice. Homeschooling is a better choice than a Public School education. Homeschooling offers
In current times, children are told from a young age that college is imperative to getting a good, stable job. However, this is not always true. Therefore, it cannot be determined if college is always the best choice. Because each person is different and learns in a way unique to themselves, it’s up to each individual to decide whether or not they think they need further education based upon their goals, aspirations, and desires in life. There are many benefits to attending a college or university. For example, college graduates earn about $17,500 more each year than high school graduates. College degrees also give you more options. Not only do you have many career options after obtaining your degree, you also have differing options of how you acquire your degree. Colleges and universities have created many diverse programs, offering traditional classes, online classes, semi-online classes, and night and weekend classes. One of the biggest benefits of attending college is the real world experience you gain from being there and living partially on your own. For most people, college is a time where you can gain experience living with new responsibilities that you don’t have at home, without the pressure of having to pay bills on time
My parents are two of the most hardworking people I know. Although a college dropout, my father is now an engineer at the Boeing Company, while my mother ran a well-known daycare until I started high school. My parents had decided to homeschool my three siblings and me a little after I was born, and to do so, they had no qualms about sacrificing time, money, or respect. When I entered ninth grade, my parents chose to close my mother’s daycare to better homeschool my siblings and me, which meant my father had to then single-handedly support our family of six.
Students’ wouldn’t be able to hold down a job is the second reason they shouldn’t dropout of high school. Many employers would like to have someone who has been too high school and that have been educated so they can handle money and add things p...
There are so many people that are at dead-end jobs or do not have the courage to go back to school. The person going back to school is not only a role model for their family members, but to coworkers and friends! The advantages of going back to school will allow them to really cherish and enjoy their current schooling. According to Kalambakal, “The extra years will be more fun for you because your education will pay off, financially and spiritually”. With these advantages any class that has writing papers like English, Ethics and Psychology. Using the past experiences for these studies is an incredible advantage (Kalambakal
My parents have this perfect life for me pictured in their heads, and the first thing they see me doing is going to college. They expect the best of me, and so by going to college, I will not only have fulfilled their goals for me, but I will have accomplished one of the goals I have set for myself. In our culture, when parents come to the age where they can’t support themselves, it is the duty of the children to look after them.
