This assignment is to identify, explain and analyse an organisations policies and procedures that could guide a manager in recruitment and selection.
Policies are the rules implemented by the government and adopted by the organisation that has to be followed by every employee and the organisation itself. A policy is to define what to do. According to mycommittee (2014), a policies is “a principle of actions that guides the decisions-making and activities of the organisation”
Procedures are the step that everyone within the organisation has to follow. It provides detailed information the requirements from every department.
Policies and procedures are the guidance to accomplishments the major goals set by the organisations and to make sure that everyone follows.
Introduction to the organisation
The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, King’s Lynn NHS Foundation Trust is an establishment of 488 bed general and 12 cots providing over 25 departments in healthcare services to West and North Norfolk, parts of Berckland, Cambridgeshire and South Lincolnshire. The hospital has a great range of specialist in treatment of cancer at the Macmillan centre by providing a comforting care for the patients suffering chronic illnesses, as well a very known and recognised Radiology Department.
The hospital Trust is one of the 12 most efficient hospitals trust in England.

Sex Discrimination Act 1975- This protects women and men from discrimination or harassment as levels of the gender in employment, advertising, education or even in the provision of housing, good, services or facilities. The reason this was created is to protect every gender in the service away from discrimination or harassment because of their difference of sex. It was made by keeping the individuals protected from harassments and discrimination in service, for example all service users are kept away from sexual harassment, this is ensure by checking every staff member and care workers in the service.
The difference between legislation, policy, procedures and guidelines are, legislation is an act of parliament. This is a document that has a legal requirement to follow it, either in work, social or personal situations. A couple of examples of a Legalisation would be. Health and Safety at work act 1974 and Data protection Act 1998. These both have to be followed as they are a legal requirement which could potentially lead to a safeguarding issue or even prosecution. Usually all Legislations have ‘ACT’ on the end. Policy is a document which is usually kept in your work place office which holds the important information but a shorter version of a Legislation, and what you could relate to in a work place when you need a basis for standards and training. A Procedure is usually paperwork which gives you step by step guidance on what to do in certain situations. A single policy may be supported by a number of producers for example; Safeguarding may have a number of different procedures to follow in a particular situation.

The main aim of employee selection is to achieve person-job fit which is identifying the knowledge, skills, abilities (KSAs), and competencies that are central to performing the job. This writer as a nurse leader has access to use these resources. Evidence based policy has been defined as an approach that “helps people make well informed decisions about policies, programs and projects by putting the best available evidence from research at the heart of policy development and implementation”(Davies, 1999). This nurse leader’s facility utilizes policies that evidence based and retrieved from best available resources.

In conclusion, there are many rights to the employees’ when it comes down to equal opportunity employment. In this paper you learned of a few different types of discrimination towards employees’ and how different acts protect them in the workforce. It also has shown what rights a person has as an employee in the working environment.
Recruitment and selection process are important and essential in the human resource management. Human resource management is a functional process that focuses on the management and recruitment of workers in an organization, also giving directions to workers in the organization. The purpose of recruitment and selection process are helping an organization to find the right person for the right position in a job, employees can know which person is suitable and needed in that specific position through the recruitment and selection process. Recruitment and selection process are about how an organization hire and choose workers during this process, employees are going to choose the most suitable workers and organize the most suitable work for them. (Gedaliahui & Shay, 1999)
