In the play of Fool for Love the director showed some major themes very well. The first major theme that was shown was how they showed the old man throughout the play. They showed the old man sitting a little bit off the stage in the dark. This gave people the idea that he was died and was a voice in Eddie’s and May’s mind. When the old man did talk they would put the spot light on him. Another major theme they showed well was how May felt when Eddie just appeared in her life again. They showed how May was mad about Eddie leaving her and just showing up again with all the doors slamming and how she would not let him sleep with her for the night. They also showed well that May still had feelings towards Eddie. Every time May told Eddie to leave, she would run to him and would tell him to stay and that she is sorry. As a result, he provides a basis for a new understanding of the past and the forces that led to the deciding factor of the Plains Indian tribes. Although Fools Crow reflects the pressure to assimilate inflicted by the white colonizers on the Blackfeet tribes, it also portrays the influence of economic changes during this period. The prosperity created by the hide trade does not ultimately protect the tribe from massacre by the white soldiers. It does, however, effectively change the Blackfeet economy and women's place in their society. Thus, it sets the stage for the continued deterioration of their societal system. Although their economic value is decreased, women still represent an important cog in the economic structure. Indeed, women are central to the survival of the Blackfeet tribal community that Welch creates and in many ways this strength and centrality provide background for the strength of the women depicted in his more contemporary novels. Welch's examination of the past leads to a clearer understanding of the present Blackfeet world presented throughout his work.
Sherman Alexie writes in his story, What You Pawn I Will Redeem about a homeless Salish Indian named Jackson Jackson. Alexie takes readers on Jackson’s journey to acquire enough money to purchase back his grandmother’s stolen powwow regalia. Throughout the story, Jackson’s relationships with other charters ultimately define his own character. Alexie, a well know Native American author tells an all too common tale of poverty and substance abuse in the Native American community through his character Jackson. The major character flaw of Jackson is his kindness, which ultimately becomes his greatest asset when fate allows him to purchase back his grandmother’s powwow regalia from a pawn broker for only five dollars.

Jackson lives a lonely and a poor life.One day after buying a bottle of liquor, he notices a regalia that looks like the one he remembers from photos of his grandma hanging in a pawn shop. It exemplifies the way I feel about my own father. Everyone has a person who has made a deep impact on his or her life. For me, it was my father Donald Alexander. He was a great man with a wonderful sense of humor. He was the reason I wanted to become an attorney. He said I never lost an argument. I feel tormented that I was unable to know what a great person he really was.
What is a hero? In Joseph Campbell’s book, The Hero with a Thousand Faces, he proposes a theory about someone who goes through a series of events typically experienced by a mythic hero. These events are known as the Hero’s Journey. Cheryl Strayed’s journey on the PCT can be closely related to that of the Hero’s Journey. As strayed sets out on the PCT, she unknowingly is following these steps and is on her way to a new life. It’s no doubt that the tragedies and misfortunes Strayed has endured influenced her decision to go on her journey. Beginning in her teenage years, she has faced many family and relationship issues. She has gone through her parent’s divorce, living without electricity or running water, separation from her siblings, and divorce.
Also, as the musicians performed their musical numbers, lights attached to the back wall of the recording studio would flash different colors and with each song brings a different set of colors. These colors also represented different moods; If a fun, upbeat song like “Blue Suede Shoes” was performed, red, bright blue, and green lights would glisten from the stage. The colored lighting played a huge role in this performance, because we all associate color with emotion, so it’s easier to identify what emotion is being conveyed from the music. The major light show was saved for the end; the actors who played Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, and Elvis Presley each performed a song of theirs for the audience, and the lights were flashing bright colors all over the stage, illuminating the entire theatre. This magnificent ending felt just like a concert. It was a breath-taking moment; one I was not expecting. As for light placement, such as spotlights, I think that was another key feature. When Sam Phillips, the narrator, began speaking to the audience, all other lights would cease while the single spot light follows him as he communicates with the audience. Many times when reading a novel, the reader connects with one of the characters and begins to sympathize with them. This could be because the reader understands what the character is going through or because we get to see things from the character’s perspective and their emotions and that in return allows a bond to form for the reader. The character that is the most intriguing for me and the one I found comparing to every book that I read during school was Stacey from the book “Ravensong” Lee Maracle. The character Stacey goes through a lot of internal battle with herself and it’s on her path to discovery that she begins to understand herself and what she’s capable of. Throughout the novel, Stacey has a few issues she tries to work through. This is emphasized through her village and in her school that is located across the bridge in white town. Stacey begins dealing with the loss of Nora, and elder in her town. And this in return begins the chain of events that Stacey begins on the path of self-discovery not only on herself but everyone around her. She begins to see things differently and clearly. Stacey is a very complex and confused character, and she begins to work through these complexities through her thoughts, statements and actions.
Even though, a person likes to think they are in control, life will show them they are in less control than thought they were. In Flannery O’Connor’s “Good Country People,” the character Hulga is a person that wants to maintain control in every aspect of her life good or bad. To Hulga it seems she is in constant control of her surroundings and her life. However, she does not have control that she thinks has.
The lighting was also very effectively used to show the coming and going of cars on the set. The reflection of lights on the front door of the house were used resemble those of an automobile. Even the final scene had just enough absence of light that the shadows of the characters could be seen sitting around the dinner table and praying by candlelight. At the very end of the performance the candles were extinguished consuming the set in blackness in turn signifying the end of the production.
Anderson tells the story, “I’m a Fool”, through the voice of its main character – the swipe. The narrator’s voice enhances the story because his language reinforces his character. The swipe says that he “got [his] education”, not at college, but though working in the stables, traveling with Burt, and going to horse races. When he refers to people as “dudes” (83) and uses phrases such as “most bitterest” (81), he confirms that fact. He uses improper grammar and many slang expressions; his language shows that he is uneducated and disadvantaged.
The lights helped the audience determine who was speaking, by putting a spotlight over the actor and dimming the rest of the lights. Also, the color of the lights changed according to each scene and the mood for that particular scene. For instance, a musical number about a character’s tragic past would include soft, golden lighting while a scene about dancing in dance class might include purple lights to show the overall mood of the scene. In addition, the costumes used in the musical added even more life to the musical by providing a visual representation of each character and his or her personality. The costumes allowed the audience to determine the character traits of each character while also deciding the type of homes the characters came from. For instance, one of the characters was dressed in pants and a shirt that would normally be seen worn by an older man or a father. This lead the audience to believe that the character might be an older person who has a family of his own. Later, it was revealed that the character actually had a wife and two kids, proving the audience
