Food poisoning is a condition that results from eating contaminated food. It is also referred to as food-borne illness. These may attack people from any age group and lasts from few hours to several days. Food poisoning in severe case may cause chronic and fatal disease like arthritis and can attack lungs and kidneys.
According to the recent studies around 76 million illness i.e. 325,000 hospitalization in the United States are caused because of food poisoning.
Causes of Food Poisoning
Contamination of food is the key factor that is responsible for food poisoning. These can happen anywhere be it restaurants, picnics and even at home when foods are prepared in unhygienic places and in an unhygienic manner. The causes of food poisoning can be broadly divided into two categories:
• Infectious agents
Viruses, bacteria and parasites fall in this category.
• Toxic agents
This comprises of pesticides on vegetables and fruits, poisonous mushrooms and also improper way of preparing exotic foods like barracuda.
Symptoms of food poisoning
Depending on the source of contamination, the symptoms and signs may differ. However, the common symptoms and signs are listed below:
• Nausea
• Watery diarrhea
• Vomiting
• Stomach pains
• Abdominal cramps
• Fatigue
• Loss of appetite
• Fever
The symptoms may arise after consuming the contaminated food or may begin few days later. These symptoms may last from just one day to a week or more.
Tests for food poisoning
The diagnose are carried out based on history which may include the duration of sickness, the characteristics of the sickness and the specific types of food that have been eaten. Some physical exam can also be performed to look for signs and symptoms of dehydrat...

Home Remedies for Food Poisoning using fruit juice and bread
• Flushing out the system as soon as possible is one of the best home remedies for food poisoning. This can be done by drinking some fresh fruit juice that is rich in potassium and add a little honey to the juice or you can also go for corn syrup. Add a pinch of salt for taste. This juice will not only flush the system but also helps retaining the important electrolysis in the body.
• Bread is also highly beneficial for food poisoning as it will help soaking the poison from the body and give some instant relief.
Apart from all the home remedies for food poisoning mentioned in the above article, follow some simple tips like cooking the food properly at high temperature, maintaining a good personal hygiene, keeping the kitchen area clean and tidy will all help preventing food poisoning.
Almost every angle of the food industry can be considered dangerous. It is dangerous to make the food, as a meatpacking job is one that is viewed as having abnormally high risks; however when the food is handed over a counter on a tray or prepared in a family of four’s kitchen, it poses a huge risk to humankind. Foodborne illnesses are all too common and almost everybody has the possiblity of contracting a foodborne illness. These are life threatening diseases that need to be monitored and regulated; therefore the enforcement of government regulations in the fast food industry could potentially save many lives that are lost annually due to the numerous factors that need regulation.
Furthermore, food safety is a major issue in the United States. Foodborne illness has caused an estimated 1 and 6 Americans to be sickened, 128,000 hospitalizations, and cause 3,000 deaths each year (http://www.sustainabletable.org/). These numbers may seem shocking, but they are all too real. All of the high levels
Diseases: The most common health concern associated with S. aureus is food poisoning caused by the release of enterotoxins, even in small doses, into food. Release of less than 1 microgram of toxin is sufficient to contaminate food enough to illicit symptoms of food poisoning. The infective dose of toxin is generally present when food is contaminated with an excess of 100,000 bacteria per gram of food. The intensity and variety of symptoms resulting from S. aureus food poisoning differ from individual to individual, but some of the most common symptoms are nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramping, and prostration (complete physical or mental exhaustion). It usually takes 2 or 3 days to recover from S. aureus food poisoning, but in some instances individuals will require more time to fully recover.

We are not sure how they became poisoned but we are taking serious action. It would cost way too much money to stop production for these products we sell but cheaper to recall all for sale at stores. Unlike the outbreak of food poisoning in 2015 from Chipotle, where hundreds were sick in several state. (Goguen, 2015). Since chipotle is a franchise business with many of business across America and outside the U.S. it is a lot cheaper closing down all individual business than one individual business like Nutritional Foods Inc. This recent food poisoning case was very similar to the case of nutritional foods. Many of people were sick from E. Coli and norovirus incidents that shut down forty-three restaurants. They stated some great information that would be helpful to relating to the Nutritional Food Case. They stated “time delays between eating the food and onset of illness may make it difficult to pinpoint the food that made you sick. On the other hand, if a government health agency has linked a particular food you ate to an outbreak of food poisoning, your claim may be easier” (Goguen,
Salmonella is one danger that has caused many effects to consumers. Walsh writes about one incident when an outbreak “from tainted peanuts that killed at least eight people and sickened 600,” (Walsh 167). This incident left many people asking the same question, how can we trust the food that we put into our bodies? Salmonella, a type of food poisoning caused by bacteria found on different food types has caused an epidemic because of its domino effect on food and our health. Once one factory is contaminated, that factory could be housing both crops and meat, which is then transferred to our supermarkets and on our dinner tables. ...
Wash kitchen work surfaces and utensils with soap and water immediately after they have been in contact with raw meat or poultry. The client must understand that uncooked meat and poultry should be kept separate from produce, cooked foods and ready to eat foods. People with salmonellosis should not prepare food or pour water for others until their diarrhea has been resolved too.
Reports indicates that “there are 76 million cases of food poisoning in the United States each
“Each year, around 50 million Americans get sick from eating unsafe food, resulting in more than 100,000 hospitalizations, 3,000 deaths and countless days of missed work.” (CDC, 2011). Here are some of the unsafe foods, making it into our food supply. Now there are 3 major
McCarthy et al., 2007concerns about the increase in foodborne illness and its relationship with consumer food safety knowledge level probably prompting the author assessing levels of food safety knowledgein the Irish population aiming to classify the knowledge levels. Moreover, previous studies in the Republic of Ireland on food safety awareness and knowledge, (DE BOER et al. 2005; Bolton et al. 2005; Bolton et al. 2008) indicated consumer decisions on food safety risk is below expert expectation. Globally, concern for food safety is increasingly creating exhaustive analysis into the escalating of food safety risk and factors affecting food safety decisions. The World Health organization (WHO) reports millions of people falling sick from foodborne illness annually WHO, 2014, the United States estimated 48 million people yearly (Anon), Canada’s Public Health Agency (PHAC) approximates 4 million foodborne illness reported annually in 2013 (Estimates of Food-borne Illness in Canada - Government of Canada 2013) and the European union reports food handlers as the probable cause of foodborne illn...
Symptoms of E. coli infection usually start within about 3 to 4 days after exposure, but can be as little as 1 day or as long as 10 days.
Food safety is an increasingly important public health issue. Governments all over the world are intensifying their efforts to improve food safety. Food borne illnesses are diseases, usually either infectious or toxic in nature, caused by agents that enter the body through the ingestion of food. “In industrialized countries, the percentage of people suffering from food borne diseases each year has been reported to be up to 30%. In the United States of America, for example, around 76 million cases of food borne diseases, resulting in 325,000 hospitalizations and 5,000 deaths, are estimated to occur each year.” (Geneva 2)
Each and every year millions of people become sick because of food poisoning and other food related illnesses. Many of these illnesses can easily be prevented by properly cooking and handling food in the kitchen. Unfortunately, many people around the world are unaware of the consequences that can occur from contaminated and undercooked food. It is important for every individual who is planning on making a meal in their life (virtually everyone) to understand how to properly prepare their meal.
Fortunately, most forms of food poisoning last only a short time - between one and three days. However, you may feel sick for as long as seven or more days; and in extreme cases the symptoms can be fatal.
The third weakness is the fact that food tests, inspections, and the detection of contaminants are taken seriously only after an outbreak of some food-borne diseases, food poisoning, or deaths. The increase in the number of food establishments or outlets such as cold stores, hypermarkets, and supermarkets reported by the Public Health Director has also made inspection and control mo...
