Over this semester, I attended two concerts. The first concert I went to was a performance done by the Swedish band Graveyard at the 9:30 club in DC. The second concert that I went to was at the George Mason Center for Performing Arts. This concert was a jazz competition between bands call The Battle of the Big Bands. Both concerts were performed very well and kept the audience, myself included, very entertained throughout the entire show. In this paper, I will be discussing each individual show in depth, and then continuing on to compare the two concerts. My two favorite songs of the evening were played by the Mason Jazz Ensemble. The first song played was titled Harlem Airshaft by Duke Ellington. This song uses complex instrumentation to paint a picture of walking through Harlem at night. The song is able to convey the way that Duke Ellington say Harlem. The song feels both hectic and organized all while conveying the beauty of the city. Harlem Air Shaft, as is typical with many jazz songs, uses a combination of call and response to really showcase the different sounds of the instruments in the band as well as the abilities of the musicians. Because of the many different solos in this song, it was my favorite song from the night. My second favorite song that night was called Lush Life by Sarah Vaughan. For this song, the instruments took a back seat to entrancing vocals. The instrumentation was used to produce a beautiful smooth and almost enchanting atmosphere to lift the singer to captivate the audience with beautiful vocals. The vocals were smooth and bright and held the entire audience’s attention. The instruments used in these songs and the rest of the songs during the show were very typical of that of a big band. I took notice in how the band communicated with each other either by hand signal or eye signal and they all paid close attention to Eric’s every move. It is so important to watch whoever is leading; good communication will cut down a lot of unnecessary mistakes. I really enjoyed the songs the texture of the songs was composed very well, even though the songs were written in a 60s and 70s style I could relate to them. My favorite is “Layla” I sometimes sing it all throughout the day, I love the texture and I love the rhythm. Overall the concert was awesome, I would definitely attend Eric Clapton’s concert if he’d come into my town. The concert was well worth listening to and I would definitely invite a friend to join along with me.
During a musical performance many elements to be looked are not easily recognized by the average critic. A musical performance has multiple interactions taking place between the music, text, performers, audience, and space that all can contribute to a great performance. Overwhelming majority of the audience does not realize so much can be looked at during a single performance. At a performance by the University of Maryland Marching Band I was able to analyze the Musical Sound, Contexts of the Performance, and Interpretation of the Performance.
...ength in themselves and their love of jazz fusion music. The last song of the night played was their hit single, “Free the Toronto Nine”. Each musician had their own solo that kept true to the original song, but with fresh improvisation that created this incredible tune. This song has it all, swing feel, syncopation, improvisation, and enticing the rise and fall, but with a dramatic and modernized twist that just leaves you wanted more. This tune was definitely my favorite song of the night.
...xcited to have this experience. Part of the drama of the concert at first is felt when the musicians come in and sit down and begin tuning up their instruments. I would not be able to comment on the performance of the orchestra. During the performance, I seen the audience were moving with the music, but I felt like that everyone seems knows more music than what I learned throughout this semester. After I went home and did some of the research on these music I finally understand why these people like to attend the orchestra concerto, it was because that every piece of music has a history behind it. The Los Angeles audience seemed to me to be people who know music and who will listen to something new in a respectful way. All the same, when the more familiar sounds of the last piece were heard, I could feel a little sense of relaxation and fun coming into the room.
The Jazz Band was very good. The first song they played was “Dashing Through the Snow!” arranged by Clark. The second song was “Solitude” by Ellington. The third song was “Splanky” by Hefti. The last song they played was “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” arranged by Lewis.
On Tuesday, October 17, 2017, I attended a musical concert. This was the first time I had ever been to a concert and did not play. The concert was not what I expected. I assumed I was going to a symphony that featured a soloist clarinet; however, upon arrival I quickly realized that my previous assumptions were false. My experience was sort of a rollercoaster. One minute I was down and almost asleep; next I was laughing; then I was up and intrigued.
I can still recall that atmosphere whenever I think about it; that wonderful evening with my favorites and all about that evening. The Curtis Culwell center was an amazing experience and surely will be in the coming years. That feel of the auspicious and pleasant day with the serene ambience, when one of my favorite singer-composer brothers came to Dallas for a live concert can still be remembered by me. Salim- Sulaiman, the singer-composer brothers from India, famous for their music and love songs and their spiritual touches mesmerized the whole arena. The best part about their concerts in the tour of North America was their initiative. It was an initiative towards the famous Aga Khan Museum of Toronto, Canada and all the profits from the
...ked throughout the concert. The pacing of the selections seemed appropriate. No piece sounded like the one before it. There was a great variety of songs played. There were songs played that were written by famous jazz composers and songs played that were written by some of the performers themselves. This added to the excitement of the show.
First there was the Community concert band, Followed by the Amanda Castro Band, And finalized by the Chaffey college Jazz ensemble. This added up to a total of 55 performers plus the conductors. Although they were 3 different groups, each one of them of them borrowed members from each other. For example: The Community Concert Band performed a cover of the famous song “Over the Rainbow” from which they borrow the performer Amanda Castro who performed most of the vocals from the show. Compared to all the other concerts that I have gone to, the Ron Eschete Trio concert was a definite change in atmosphere. On February 23, 20001 I attended a concert held at Ahmnson Building in Los Angeles County Museum of Art, featuring Ron Eschete on seven string guitar, Todd Johnson on six string bass, and Paul Humphrey on drums. It was three hours long, from 5:30 to 8:30. I arrived there little late because it said to be held on times mirror central court but it was actually playing at lower level of Ahmnson Building.
In conclusion, the concert was really interesting and I enjoyed myself. In my opinion the two pieces that I really like in this concert, are Sounden Horn and Polonaise from Engine Onegin, the shift between the melodic lines and the element of beauty is what made me like it. In the future I would recommend it to my friends and I will not mind to go with them at all. This kind of music is the best to me by far.
I attended the Los Angeles Philharmonic classical music concert at the Walt Disney Concert Hall on Friday 29 November 2013. The classical concert started at 8:00pm to the enjoyment of the huge audience that had been waiting for this amazing music extravaganza. Classical music concerts always offer magnificent entertainment and the audience in this concert was expectant to derive such entertainment or more. In attendance were Christian Zacharias who was the conductor and Martin Chalifour who was the LA Phil commanding Principal Concertmaster and Bach violin player. In readiness for the concert, I enjoyed a special dinner prepared for the audience. More specifically, LA Phil staffer introduced us to the evening classical concert amidst cheers from the audience. It was such a refreshing and joyous feeling to be part of this audience.
Once I let my thoughts return to the music, I knew what lie ahead of me. I tapped the nearest "big guy" on the shoulder and pointed towards the ceiling; the universal signal on the concert floor. He nodded, grabbed my foot, and pushed me on top of the crowd. Once I was up there was no turning back. Soon strong hands were surfing me towards the stage. I had the best view in the house and reveled in the moment. I was fueled by an adrenaline rush that was only heightened by the fusion of the music and the energy of the crowd.
Musical concerts are undoubtedly an incredible opportunity to experience a great aesthetic pleasure by listening to the musicians perform in front of your eyes. The power of music can hardly be overestimated – it can transfer a number of messages, thoughts and feelings through the performed sounds. Therefore the one can comprehend the music in the best possible way only when it is heard live. Musical concerts are often revelatory and highly impressive experiences to me. This essay thereby aims to provide my reflections and impressions of the concert of Gregory Porter & the Metropole Orchestra which I had the opportunity to attend in Nashville, TN.
The audience and I, sat down at tables with food and some sort of beverage, chatting with our friends and family during the performance. When every song was over, we clapped and after a few songs there was a little bit of cheering! Since, I have only been to a concert I will compare it to this. At a concert, I would rate the audience’s interaction with the performance as very involved. I feel this way because the audience tends to cheer before and after every song and sing along to every song played.
