All my life I have been an optimistic person, believing in the half glass full concept and things happens for a reason. My friends and my loved one can attest to that, that I have a positive outlook on things and am the kind of person that tends to go with the flow. Optimism has been a really big help in my life to get me to where I am today, finding the silver lining in things that others think could not be there. Always having a positive attitude whenever possible, not only for myself but to encourage my friends and family when they need a pick me up to make it through the rest of the day. Before attending Bergen Community College, I attended another school where I had a very negative experience and things did not go according to how I thought they would. In this school I signed up for a major that I was so excited for. While in attendance things were not as great as they seemed, I found out that the school was mainly there to take advantage of unbeknownst students like myself thinking that they were going to be getting a fabulous career in the major that they have slaved their time, energy, and money to achieve. Although the teachers where great the administration was not, they were money hungry and that was their first priority over anything else I do understand that it is a business but learning and teaching should be above all else. After hearing this it may come to mind how does one find the silver lining or the good in a situation like this? Well experiencing this it allowed me to pursue a different career and helped me to understand how the financial aid process works and the right questions to ask so not only would I or anyone would be pulled into this luring web and trapping someone else. Although I have a big student loan, I am starting fresh here at Bergen and leaving the past
In life, it is important to be optimistic, and see the glass as half full. Being optimistic means to look at things in a positive way. And it is important to stay optimistic in life. Being an optimist can also be thought of as having lots of hope for the future. Sometimes it is hard to be optimistic when other things in your life are going wrong. But, you have to look past the negatives, and try to see the best in things and keep hope. Penelope and I are both similar because we both stay optimistic in life.
Optimism was attractive to many because it answered a profound philosophical question that mankind had been grappling with since the beginning of faith: if God is omnipotent and benevolent, then why is there so much evil in the world? Optimism provides an easy way out of this philosophical dilemma: God has made everything for the best, and even though one might experience personal misfortune, God (via your misfortune) is still helping the greater good.
When one has a positive outlook in difficult circumstances, it is the most important predictor of resilience; how quickly people recover from adversity. People who are resilient tend to be more optimistic and positive compared to less-resilient people. While I wish finding my way around the school was my only problem, I was faced with some internal challenges. As the school year started, my friends slowly started to leave to these “big shot” colleges or simply move away to other community colleges. My college career started with me just going to school to take PE classes while neglecting my main required core classes and always pushing them aside without any urgency to succeed in finishing school. A couple of years would go by with little to no progress and lack of motivation to succeed in finishing my college required classes. Soon landing a career oriented job and finding myself dropping out of college to focus on my work career. From this point and time I would learn the importance of school and the value of finish college through my years of experience at work. This awareness of value in finishing college would motivate me to want to go back to school. Soon I would find myself at American River College counseling center. Here I was coming back to school unsure of myself and in an environment where I previously never found success in school. After meeting with my counselor I was recommended to take a college success course. This course is part of a program called the Accelerated College Education (ACE). Because I was able to learn along the years being out of school the importance of gaining an education I gained a new motivation for school, signed up for this ACE program, and enroll in the college success

My philosophy in life is that people should always have a positive attitude no matter the situation. I always look at the positive side of things even when there seems to be none. Positivity allows me to see the world in a better perspective and achieve much more than I would if I had a negative outlook on things. Positivity also gives me an extra push to achieve my goals. Positivity can closely compare to self-reliance.
Exercise 1 Optimism refers to how an individual interprets and explains life’s events. If a situation turns out to be negative, the optimistic individual relates the outcome to external, unstable, out of one’s control and does not take it personally (Rana & Chadha, 2017). When outcomes are positive in nature, the optimistic individual believes it will occur again in the future relating the success to the individual’s attributions (Rana & Chadha, 2017). Whereas, the pessimistic person views a negative event as the result of personal factors, internalizes the failure and views positive events as pure luck (Rana & Chadha, 2017). Firstly, people who show an optimism bias feel more happy and satisfied with their life. These people are also more in control of and engaged in their life’s goal, they will not just think about happy thoughts and wait for life to pass, instead they will be engaged in a meaningful life and do whatever it takes to accomplish their goals. They are also less likely to give up on a difficult situation and will cope with it. These are people who will not wait for the rain to pass but who learn to dance in the rain in order to fulfil their life’s goal. Unrealistic optimism shows an increased well-being and happiness. With this increased well-being, unrealistically optimistic people are also more able to pick themselves up after a major life
At a very young age, I’ve always been interested in helping and teaching others the power of knowledge. It mostly stems from the knowledge I was taught by my loved ones. Being the youngest in my family. There was always someone looking out for me and always tending to my needs. Which is part of the reason why I have a pessimism attitude. My lack of confidence in future stems from everyone figuring out what’s best for me and not allow me to make my own decisions.
These phycologists have wondered if there are more optimist or pessimists in the world. They have made an attempt to find out what approach is greater or better. There are some advantages to optimism because it makes people feel better about life, however, there are also some advantages to pessimism in that looking at the unfortunate side of things can help some pessimists cope better with the world. Both optimism and pessimism have important roles to play the lives of everybody. Being optimist permits people to go after their goals in a positive way, to dream bigger and better dreams, which they can strive to work towards. Optimist also tend to respond better to positive feedback, and a part of being an optimist may be producing this feedback for themselves, example, thinking positive thoughts. While on the other hand, being pessimistic may help people to better acknowledge negative feedback and reduce their natural anxiety to perform better. Once again, part of the reason why pessimist generates negative thoughts is that it helps them perform a lot better. People tend to utilize both optimism and pessimism in order for them gain out of their advantages. People who are mainly concerned with growth or advancement often manifest an optimistic view, whereas those who are concerned with safety and security, or avoiding negative outcomes, focus more on pessimism in order to improve their
