Introduction
The film industry has become a large part of part of human culture for over a millennium. Since the development of the motion picture camera in the 1890s, shortly followed by the establishment of production companies, film has vastly gained popularity. While there are many different reasons of the existence of films, one of the main purposes is to convey a message to the viewer. Climate change and the environment is a frequently discussed topic in films. This essay will discuss three common facts and fallacies found in popular movie culture by comparison of peer reviewed journals.

One of the films that deal greatly with the effects of overconsumption on the environment is the animated motion picture WALL-E (2008). The movie is set on Earth in the year 2805 where the Earth is a barren wasteland, void of any signs of life (save for cockroaches).

It is quite possible for the Earth to turn into a large landfill or garbage dump, however it is quite certain a preventative measure will be developed before that can happen. When looking at emission data, one can conclude that the Earth would have possibly succumbed to global warming as seen in the movie. In a study by Aljaradin & Persson (2016) the emission potential was tested on a solid waste landfill in Jordan. After 200 days, showed a methane content of over 45% and 15.7 l of Leachate was produced (Aljaradin & Persson, 2016:45). Methane is an important greenhouse gas, and one of the causes of global warming. Methane is 84 times more effective than CO2 at trapping heat in a shorter time (over the first 20 years). Leachate contributes greatly to the pollution of ground and surface water when improperly managed. Therefore it could be entirely possible that these landfills and dump sites caused the entire planet to succumb to the effects of global warming and uncontrollable
Films are necessary in our time period because the human eye can articulate the message intended through sight allowing visual imagination to occur. In the book, world 2 by Max Brooks, he creates a character by the name Roy Elliot who was a former movie director. Roy Elliot manages to make a movie titled “Victory at Avalon: The Battle of the Five Colleges” and some how it goes viral. Similarly, Frank Capra’s film, “Why we Fight” expresses a sense of understanding the meaning of wars. Films do not inevitably portray truth because they display what the film director views as important and beneficial for people to know.
Most people are likely to relate Hollywood with money. If a person lives in the Hollywood area, people assume she or he is probably rich. If she or he is a Hollywood movie star, the person probably makes a lot of money. Therefore, to follow that line of thought, when Hollywood producers make a movie, they make it just for money. And some filmmakers do seem to make films only for the money the movies will earn. The action movie "Die Hard", the fantasy movie "Star Wars", and the adventure movie "Jurassic Park" are examples of exciting movies that were made just for the money by satisfying the audiences' appetite for escapism.

It is much easier to create and share your ideas through film than ever before. Independent studios before, greatly expanding the number of debates and arguments people have access to. Never has the power to express yourself and your views through film been so great, and we are better off for it.
When something is created it is a given that it will be picked apart, dismantled, will evolve into something even greater. It has become the norm in film-making to play by these rules of deformation. Movie makers have stretched the definitions of genre to encompass the given criteria set up by the very people who created these staple types of films that movie goers are used to. Dr. Vernon Johns was a pastor and civil rights activist in the 1920s. Johns became the pastor of Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama in the late 1940s. Landfills are a place to dispose of waste material by burying it and covering it over with soil, especially as a method of filling in or taking up usable land. Landfills are a bigger issue in this world than people realize. Everyday people are harming the environment more and more just by their waste. By producing enormous amounts of waste the environment is being harmed and all living things are being damaged including humans. Landfills impact the world drastically. There are many causes for the use of landfills as well as many environmental effects from them. Even though there is a significant amount of damage done to the world from landfills it is never too late to fix this issue with any of the many solutions.
Although putting our garbage in a landfill is better than throwing it out in the yard, or even the ocean, it produces a greenhouse gas called ‘methane’. Methane is the second most prevalent gas emitted by human activity followed by carbon dioxide. Methane is 25 times more dangerous to the environment than carbon dioxide. So, if landfills produce methane, what about the oceans? If there are thousands of pounds of trash worldwide, how are there still animals living in the sea? Methane kills the coral and plankton at the bottom of the ocean, not to mention that plankton is a number one food source in the ocean.
The audience can be persuaded through their emotion (Cockcroft and Cockcroft, 2005). High pathos makes the audience more likely to be persuaded (Dlugan, 2007b). On the one hand, in this speech, Leonardo invoked the fear of audience by quoting the scientific community’s prognosis, ‘If we do not act together, we will surely perish’. Later in the speech, he listed the specific actions and asked the leaders for action. He also cited the statement of the chief of the US navy, ‘climate change is our single greatest security threat’, which also trigger the fear of the audience. On the other hand, Dicaprio said solving this crisis is not a question of politics, but our moral obligation, which can inspire a strong sense of responsibility and mission. A big effect Landfills have on the environment is that they are taking up significant amounts of space. As landfills keep being added the world is going to reach its capacity sooner than later. In an article by Linda Tufano she states that “The National Waste & Recycling Association’s Begin With the Bin FAQ stated, "On a national level, the United States has 20 years of disposal capacity." (2015) 20 years of disposable capacity is not that much and when earth reaches full capacity life in earth will be hard to substation. Although this infomation may be an exageration sometimes its needed to get ones attention. The biggest effect landfills have on the environment is land pollution. Landfills cause destruction to earth’s surfaces and soil. This according to Rinkesh “...lessens the quality and/or productivity of the land as an ideal place for agriculture, forestation, construction etc…”. (2016) With the quality of earth's soil and agriculture land lessening comes many more concerns. Such as lack of available land to properly grow plants or raise cattle, which would soon become food for humans to eat. Without the ability to create food in a healthy manner human life may be in a disaster. A healthy environment is needed for humans to strive- not just humans but plants and animals as well.
