Fight for Our Future: -- The Last Chance to Protect Our Beaches

When I was doing my community service for my CAP project, I found the beautiful beach actually not as pure as what I thought before. Even I just spend three hours at my first time beach cleanup, I pick up a full-bucket trash. Most of them are small cigarette butts, plastic garbage and cans. After the volunteer job, I read an article about water pollution and beaches disappear. Depend on both of these, it rising my interesting to research what cause these happened. Beaches are a valuable resource but they are at risk in the United States. My goal in this paper is to describe two ways that result in the disappearance of the important resource: water pollution and global warming. Also the actions we can do to combat water pollution and global warming, preventing the expansion of beaches disappear.

Water Pollution
The first main reason that causes beaches disappearing is water pollution. It not only widespread in the world, also it keep harm human health. Water pollution, especially at beachside, has become more and more obvious in recent years. For example, the official report showed more than 3000 beaches in United States has potential threat. A lot of bacteria viruses in beach water can make swimmers sick (Gray). The beach is very popular entertainment, especially in coastal areas. People who live close to the beach tend to spend more time on the beach. However, potential threats directly led to many beaches closed, or many people are more afraid to go to the beach. Furthermore, NRDC noted that polluted water can cause many health problems, such as “skin rashes; pinkeye (conjunctivitis); respiratory ailments; hepatitis; neurological disorders; ear, nose and throat problems” (Gray).
