Born on August 13, 1926 and raised in a wealthy family, Fidel Castro was a leader that was loved and hated by many. When in rule, Castro changed Cuba forever and made Cuba a communist country. Fidel Castro, a political leader in history, made a plethora of choices that have impacted his nation. Castro’s decision, the impact it had on Cuba, and how genres of literature can show choice and consequences are just a few ways on how a nation can change by one person’s actions.

For example, one choice that the new dictator had made was to reform Cuba, to make it better. Castro did not only make some horrible decisions in the past, but when took power he also helped his country by improving the county’s education and health care problems. “Castro had come to power with the support of most Cuban city dwellers on the basis of his promises to restore the 1940 constitution, create an honest administration, reinstate full civil and political liberties, and undertake moderate reforms”( Encyclopedia Britannica Online web). On the other hand, he had made choices that had hurt the country such as jailing people, not allowing some things, etc. During Castro’s rule, he made the choices and decisions of imprisoning and limiting the people, as well as destroying private businesses. He made changes that affected everyone in Cuba. “But he also closed down opposition newspapers, jailed thousands of political opponents and made no move toward elections. Moreover, he limited the amount of land a person could own, abolished private business and presided over housing and consumer goods shortages”(History.com Staff web). In short, Fidel Castro made choices, changes, and decisions that had good and bad consequences. Equally important, Fidel’s choices as the next leader in Cuba impacted his nation and many others. Some people believed he was a hero, even though Castro almost brought the world to a nuclear war, yet others thought of him as a cruel leader.
