In today’s society, generation and generations later women still face discrimination as it may not be as obvious it is still there. The most common and everyday discrimination that woman face is in the media that we have been if not surrounded, drowned by. When growing up the term feminism was a term that was thrown around and something that people around me seemed to be educated on but it truly never made sense to me before. As seen in the Devon Carbado piece from the course, in order for sexism to happen there has to be male privilege. Dr. Pepper, a brand many have heard of implied “It’s not for women” when introducing their new “Ten” product. Now, the only question that I have is why, what about this product can possibly make it not for women? Could it effect pregnancy, could it cause some weird breast disfiguration, could it make a uterus explode? In my opinion, these would be reasons this would not be for women, but Dr. Pepper didn’t bother to explain to us what made this not for women and while doing so they forgot to explain the difference in manly and womanly calories, because apparently there are only manly calories available in this product. The sad part about this advertisement is that there is nothing at all subtle about it. In a world where sexual intercourse is a common part of the human life it should be based upon intimacy and the exchange for attraction to one another. One of our beloved car makers, BMW, has taken the idea of sexual intercourse to whole other level. With the obvious happening in the advertisement, the women’s face is covered entirely by a magazine of a BMW car; implying that instead of enjoying the female he is with but instead he enjoying and is focusing on the car to get him where he wants to be. While this advertisement is not directly saying this to women, the placement of the magazine on her face, which he would be looking at he is focused on the magazine instead. The overall message I receive through this advertisement is the idea that men enjoy the luxury of cars as much, if not more than looking at the woman they are having intercourse with. We’d all like to believe that we are equals within our society, but democracy doesn’t necessarily ensure equality. We all must work for a living, and the constitution would have you believe that racial minorities and women would have equal opportunities and equal wages as white men. But this is not the case. For many years people, mainly girls and women, have fought to equalize genders with some success, specifically in the work force. Gender inequality is not only a historic issue but one that still exists today in the form of the gendered pay gap.
The issue being presented in this video is the over sexualization and objectification of women to sell a product. Sexualization of women, and men, is unfortunately incredibly common in westernized culture and is constantly being one up’d by the images being portrayed, constantly reinforcing the stereotypes of gender. The problem with this add is not only the sexualization and objectification of the women, but also the subtext of the theme. Some women might think they don’t feel like they are discriminated by employer because they make a high salary and satisfy their role when compare to lower wage people. The statistics of today show its still racism in the United States with hate crimes of 47 percent including police brutality, salary wage between men and women, mass incarceration with young men in prison who in this economy have little advantages if they have a family to support can’t. Justice has not been served for individuals who experience racism encounters either with the police or being murder for the color of your skin. Racial Discrimination applies to specific economic and social opportunities that influence others to think or behave negatively.

Despite there being many reasons as to why people discriminate homosexuals, the most popular ones are due to their religion or cultural norm. They include acts of verbal and physical abuse towards individuals who are homosexual. For those who are homosexuals, they are verbally abused by name calling such as fag, homo or sissy more than two dozen a day. There was a survey conducted by Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network and found that 86 percent of LGBT teens are being harassed at school in 2007. In 2013, 82 percent of teens had problems from previous year with bullying about sexual orientation. 64 percent felt unsafe at school and 32 percent did no go to school because of feeling unsafe. Even as an adult homosexual are attacked verbally.
Racism can take on many forms that plague the brain with irrationality that affects an individual’s thoughts and actions. Racism can be a physical form, through an external action, or can branch off into unethical thoughts. This is more known to be a discriminative thought, judging a person based on impressions. This social problem can also be ignored by the oblivious persons of the crowd. Many individuals speak out about how racial tension is long gone and forever forgotten ever since the first African-American was elected to be president in 2008, but this can be evidently proven false. Racial tension is still here to target the minorities in the forms of affirmative action and Ferguson conflicts.
The objectification of women in advertising is far too common. Advertising has become so concentrated with images of passive woman wearing little clothing that it is now accepted to laugh at these sexist ads. The reason why some men find this ad funny is because within Australian society there are so many similar ads that it gives the impression that women in adverts are something to laugh at. The new ad is not offensive and should sell Tiger Beers without having to further promote sexism.
