Besson, unfortunately went through an accident which had made him unable to dive and to pursue his dreams of becoming a marine biologist. At the age of 17, he had discovered television and cinema. Deciding to pursue a film career at the age of 19, Besson left for Hollywood where he studied films for three years. He said:
“So I took a piece of paper and on the left I put everything I could do, or had skills for, and all the things I couldn't do. The first line was shorter and I could see that I loved writing, I loved images, I was taking a lot of pictures. So I thought maybe movies would be good. But I thought that to really know I should go to a set. And a friend of mine knew a guy whose brother was a third assistant on a short film. It's true” (The Guardian.)
Besson created numerous amounts of short films and silent films.
“So, I said: "OK, let's go on the set." So I went on the set and the first thing that I remember is that there was thi...

Who would have thought that a brilliant career in filmmaking could have originated with a modest jar of Skippy Peanut Butter smeared on a neighbor’s window in a tiny Cincinnati suburb? One might not think that such an average boyhood prank could evolve a boy into a man who would become the most financially successful film director in history. Well, that is exactly where Leah Spielberg, Steven Spielberg’s mother, would trace her son’s initial entry into becoming one of our nation’s most creative storytellers. “His badness was so original,” she recalls (Stein 3).
Lisa Cholodenko grew up in Los Angeles and she began her film careers working as an assistant editor; however, she then moved to New York and earned an MFA in screenwriting and direction at the Columbia University School of arts. At Columbia University School of Arts, Cholodenko filmed her first short movie Dinner Party. Besides being a director, Lisa Cholodenko also was a film professor at Columbia University, an advisor and is currently on the Board of Governs of Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Science. It was surprising to be able to find out how active Cholodenko is in the film industry and in the university she attended. This portrays how committed Cholodenko is to creating successful movies and to be a part of others film victory.
Stevens was famous for “shooting from an underdeveloped screenplay that was ever in flux, finding the film as he shot it and later edited it.” (Hopwood, 2014) He preferred to take his time and jus...

In the end both films have made me want to live a lifestyle of the journalist. I believe that I am oblivious to the world because I haven’t traveled as much as I can. I learned so much and as a result teach people how to be more conscious of their choices. I’d hope with what I learn that I could create better business practices and help create a smarter society.
Often times people neglect the fact that the things- such as films- that they see and hear day to day can actually be worthwhile in teaching them. They come into contact with them purely for the purpose of being entertained and, sometimes, do not even realize that they are being taught valuable life lessons in the process. In conjunction with this theory, Professor Michael Taylor once said, “We don’t often think of the value of media beyond its entertainment, but there is a whole area that has to do with education through entertainment. As filmmakers, the work that we do has a huge impact on our culture. With that comes an opportunity, and may be even a responsibility, to use that impact for greater good.” Many French and Francophone films
Although the idea was unpopular with his father, Lucas was not stopped in pursing his career. At school, he realized that he had to work his but off to stay on top. He did not mind the hard work. Lucas actually felt relaxed staying up all night editing film. Even when a lot of college students got high on drugs, “Lucas got high on films (1, 45).
Everyone has thought at one point or another, "My life is so interesting; it should be a movie." Some may especially think that in the hustle and bustle of Field Week. This year, Marian along with producer, Tom Elkins is making that subconscious thought a reality.
Think about your favorite movie. When watching that movie, was there anything about the style of the movie that makes it your favorite? Have you ever thought about why that movie is just so darn good? The answer is because of the the Auteur. An Auteur is the artists behind the movie. They have and individual style and control over all elements of production, which make their movies exclusively unique. If you could put a finger on who the director of a movie is without even seeing the whole film, then the person that made the movie is most likely an auteur director. They have a unique stamp on each of their movies. This essay will be covering Martin Scorsese, you will soon find out that he is one of the best auteur directors in the film industry. While growing up, Aronofsky had the great pleasure of seeing the greatest movies being released for the first time in theatres. Spielberg’s Jaws and George Lucas’ Star Wars were great successes that triggered a further liking of film for Aronofsky. Coming from a strong household and educated with an MFA in Directing, Aronofsky’s great successes were becoming f...
Good acting relies on a kinesthetic, an intrapersonal, and an interpersonal intelligence, all of which work together to form a creative expression. There exist limitless styles of acting; there is always something to learn.
In the film “Babel” directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, Chieko Wataya (Rinko Kikuchi), Susan Jones (Cate Blancett) and Richard Jones (Brad Pitt) are all compromised by circumstance. Chieko is impaired by being born a deaf-mute and her mother’s suicide. Susan is viewed as a stereotypical tourist who excludes herself from her surroundings. When Susan is shot, she is forced out of her secluded world. The gunshot not only effects Susan, but also her husband, Richard – bringing their worlds together. In Fernado Meirelle’s film, “The Constant Gardener”, both Justin Quayle (Ralph Fiennes) and Dr Brand (Petre Postlethwaite) are oblivious to the conditions separate to their spheres. Tessa Quayle’s (Rachel Weisz) death shakes Justin from his complacency; whereas for Dr Brand, it was the death of his patients that opened his eyes.
despite him being my favorite director and I just watched it few weeks ago. By watching that film you can see his unique style and the technique he used to shot that film which is amazing.
Offering the unique ability to visually and audibly convey a story, films remain a cornerstone in modern society. Combined with a viewer’s desire to escape the everyday parameters of life, and the excitement of enthralling themselves deep into another world, many people enjoy what films stand to offer. With the rising popularity of films across the world, the amount of film makers increases every day. Many technological innovations mark the advancement of film making, but the essential process remains the same. Pre-production accounts for everything taken place before any shooting occurs, followed by the actual production of the film, post-production will then consist of piecing the film together, and finally the film must reach an audience. Each step of this process contributes to the final product, and does so in a unique right. The process of film making will now start chronologically, stemming from the idea of the story, producing that story into a film, editing that footage together, and finally delivering that story to its viewers.
In Aphra Behn’s “The Rover”, between the categories of virgin and whore lies a void rather than a spectrum. The three leading ladies of the play Hellena, Florinda and Angellica most certainly fall into these categories; Hellena and Florinda being virginal ladies of quality and Angellica being a famous courtesan. These three women attempt to challenge these roles throughout the play. Aphra Behn uses the domination of the men over the women, the objectification of the women and the double standards that exist between men and women to illustrate the impossibility of taking one’s sexuality into one’s own hands, and challenging the assigned roles of the patriarchal society for the female characters in the play.
