Fat or Fit? Today’s Generation Decides
America is statistically known to be the fattest nation because of the drastic increase in the obesity epidemic amongst young individuals. Obesity is a condition in which an individual contains excessive body fat resulting in being overweight, putting individuals at a higher risk of suffering from health problems. The most prominent cause of this increase involves unhealthy eating habits that then lead to young individuals being diagnosed with illnesses that originally began at a much older age. The lives of Americans in comparison to the past has drastically changed and has had a negative impact on the health of Americans now. The fast food restaurants developed over the years attract young adults because of it being cheap and convenient to those who have busy lives. The lifestyle of these young adults while growing up also has an effect on the eating habits they are accustomed to now. The government also plays a major role in the health of Americans because healthier foods like fruits and vegetables are sold at a higher price; but, junk food is sold at a much lower price resulting in Americans choosing the unhealthy foods instead. Those who are responsible for the increase in the obesity epidemic involving young adults are the young adults themselves as well as the government and parents of those individuals. To put a stop to this obesity epidemic there should be changes in both eating and physical activity habits of young adults, the government should take action and start lowering food prices, young adults need to be more informed about the risks and consequences of eating unhealthy, and fast food restaurants need to reduce the amount of advertisement put out on the media.

Another factor that is responsible for the increase in the obesity epidemic is the government’s high prices on healthy foods. Both young adults and parents also need to become more educated on the issue that is only only continuing to grow if there are no changes made. The advertisement of fast food restaurants needs to be reduced as well so young adults do not crave the unhealthy foods and are persuaded to buy those meals that only deteriorate the body slowly. All of these changes stated need to be made to decrease the obesity epidemic from affecting young individuals now and in the future. Start making a change now so the obesity epidemic issue affecting young adults doesn’t continue to soar out of control for the next generations.
