Hardcore BodyBuilders
Fiction does not exist in the field of body building. Everything is made to happen and nothing is impossible especially if another person achieved it. This is the fundamental believe in all the gymnasiums I visited. Bodybuilders are more than willing to do anything to stretch out their butts and build the six pack feature, which they see on those whom they idolize. Something very peculiar about all body builders is that there must be somebody whom they idolize. Everybody builder wants to look like some else. The workouts and the weight lifting, in the gymnasium, are all aimed at getting that look they saw on an Arnold Schwarzenegger’s action movie or on the front page of a body building magazine. Others want to be like the WWF superstars. And because the normal genetic body maker up cannot help bodybuilders realize the Pecs and biceps they are looking for, they turn out for enhancers. The enhancers help them stretch a bit extra on the trainings and thus they end up with curves that an average person, on normal training, can never achieve by all means. Among all the enhancers available in the market, steroids are widely used. All the bodybuilders I have come across so far use steroids but they will not directly admit. Why they exhibit this denial is the reason for this paper.
Most gymnasiums have an established lifting regimen that enables any body builder to do squats, deadlifts and bench presses. The fatigues which result from the strenuous exercises are already an enough reason which any pro bodybuilder would prefer to use steroid. Amazingly, it is not only steroids which the body builders deny using, but also all other body enhancers. I confronted one body builder with intent of finding out why he was a...

Conclusion
Hardcore bodybuilders exhibit exceptional dedication and commitment into this activity. This is basically from the fact that they want to look like their role model. For that reason, they use steroids though deny it. One of the things that makes it hard for them to stop using steroids is if they stop, they stand an inevitable danger of the losing the muscle mass they had build. No hardcore bodybuilder is ready for such a nightmare. Thus, though they will continue to deny its use, they will not stop consuming it. Again, the desire to have spontaneous large muscles is an additional factor that drives these kinds of bodybuilders to continue using steroids. They prefer to suffer all other consequences that come with steroids at the expense of maintaining the muscle mass.

In today’s society in athletics, muscle mass and strength seem more important than in years past. It is believed that many athletes use anabolic steroids to increase their muscle mass and also their strength. Anabolic steroids are a group of synthetic hormones that promote the storage of proteins and the growth of tissue, sometimes used by athletes to increase muscle size and strength. Before the mid 1970’s the use of anabolic androgenic steroids (AAS) was used mainly by highly trained athletes especially those involved in weight training. Since then other athletes including those involved in recreational sports and non-competitive sports have started using the steroids. Steroids are also being used by many school age children especially those involved in sports in the schools. Everyone wants to be bigger, stronger, and faster and will do almost anything to gain this.
Every year high school, college, and professional athletes try to get just ?a little bigger,??a little stronger,? and to increase the amount of weights they lift by, ?just a few pounds.? To achieve these goals athletes often turn to anabolic steroids to aid them in achieving their goals. Anabolic steroids are a quick, but dangerous way to increase muscle mass, and they can carry many risks including some life threatening side affects. Years after taking steroids athletes can live to have serious heart problems, sterility, or possibly not even live, all because of foolish decisions they made in the past. These potentially fatal drugs are not widely known by young athletes at all, because they don?t know about the risks that can go along with them. In school, every student is taught about marijuana, cocaine, heroin, sex, liquor, and all those other health risks, but they?re never taught about ?roids? or ?juice.? (slang words for steroids) That should be changed, because it is known that student athletes often use steroids, not knowing the risks. Many times they take the risk because they hear about professional athletes taking steroids. But, despite their widespread use in sports, steroids can have more negative than positive effects on athletes of all types. Steroids are chemical substances that can be made naturally by the body or produced synthetically. There are many different types of steroids that are used for different things other than just athletes enhancing muscles. For example, there are types of steroids that can be used by women as birth control pills, and other types that are used for menopause treatment. The abuse of steroids is almost always found to be in the case of athletes, and that is the focus of this paper. ?All anabolic steroids are synthetic compounds whose molecular structure is similar to that of the natural male sex hormone testosterone. Testosterone affects development of the male body in two important ways: it has an anabolic effect - increases growth, especially of muscular and skeletal tissue - And an androgenic effect - increased development of male sexual characteristics. Anabolic steroids are constructed stythetically in such a way that they maximize the anabolic effect of testosterone while minimizing the androgenic effect.? The way that steroids work can easily be interpreted by a foo...
The public is under the belief that taking steroids will automatically make the user become built and muscular, which is not so. While using steroids, the user must still exercise. Some people also believe that the only way to achieve a muscular build is by using steroids, yet again, this is wrong. Many people who work hard achieve an excellent physique naturally. Male bodybuilders and athletes make up most of the steroid users in the U.S.; female athletes and teenaged athletes use steroids as well. One of the most famous steroid users is Arnold Schwarzenegger. Schwarzenegger has held the title of Mr. Universe and Mr. Olympia. He used steroids before the health risks were known and before they were illegal. Another famous steroid user is Sergio Olivia. Olivia was also a bodybuilder and competed against Schwarzenegger. Both men no longer use steroi...
Bodybuilding is a sport that tests both the body and the mind. For thousands of years, people have used it. However, only for a little over a century has it been popular. A big question asked by many in the sport is, how much has bodybuilding really changed from the silver era (the 1940s)? The answer is a lot, since the 1940s many changes have occurred. Some of these are steroid abuse, competition categories and ranks, and money (Robson). Modern-day bodybuilders have incredibly large “stacks” (slang for the steroids they use on their cycle), more opportunities to compete than they did in the 40s and even more ways to market for money. The sport of bodybuilding has been around for thousands of years and has changed more than ever in just
In our days, most people have set the goal and dream to have the perfect body. They believe by having this image, they will be popular and/or attractive. People want to achieve the body that they desire, like a super star, a hero in a Hollywood movie, a strong soldier, and an Olympic athlete. However, what are the extent people will go to get the perfect body? The biggest problem for those who dream to have a beautiful body today, as many people know, is the consumption of steroids. It is amazing what people and athletes will do to enhance their performance, strength and muscle size by taking steroids. Whether right or wrong people who use steroids to become the fastest and strongest will prevail, so who would turn down a substance that could turn them into a super athlete and a muscle man? The purpose of this essay is to inform the reader on the popular anabolic steroids that most people use and the positive and negative side effects of steroid use on its users and finally my personal point of view.
There are many types of steroids abused by athletes in order to increase their muscle mass and strength. Though steroids have a negative reputation, there are some that can be beneficial to athletes and certain patients. There are types of steroids called corticosteroids that have more medical uses to them and another type called anabolic-androgenic steroids that have a more limited medical use. The anabolic-androgenic are usually the steroids that are being abused by athletes (Bigelow, par.10). The use of steroids goes back to the end of World War II around the 1940’s. Doctors were giving the freed prisoners from the Nazi concentration camps that were at risk of death anabolic-androgenic steroids to help gain back their muscle mass and weight faster. From this knowledge, steroids began to be used by body builders and athletes to get more fit than they already were. It is believed that the abuse of the steroids started in the late 1940’s by weight lifters and bodybuilders, and by the 1950’s, it was spread to the Olympics (Bigelow, par.11). Any type of steroid should not be used if they are only going to be abused by being used in large doses with the intentions of increasing lean muscle mass and strength (Bigelow, par.11). After years of abuse of anabolic-androgenic steroids in the Olympics they were added to the list of banned substances and random testing of athletes were announced to start taking place (Bigelow, par.35).
Anabolic steroids are a group of muscle building chemicals, which are synthetic versions of the male hormone, testosterone. Developed in the 1930’s, they were prescribed to aid in muscle tissue repair by those who had undergone surgery or had degenerative diseases. Now the patients do not only use them but also athletes. Starting in the 1940’s steroids were introduced into sports. Steroids were one of the main reasons that Russia’s 1952 Olympic weightlifting team came out with pile of medals. With these results other nations thought their competitors should have the same advantage, and the use of steroids spread like wildfire.(NIDA pg 2) But now steroids are illegal to use if not prescribed by a physician, and have been banned by nearly all-athletic organizations, both professional and amateur.
Abstract: Since the beginning of sports competition, athletes have always looked for some kind of an edge over their competitors. They will do whatever it takes to be one of the elite and that includes injecting supplements into their bodies to make them bigger, stronger, and faster. Steroid use is probably one of the most common drug misuses in sports competition. Athletes found that with anabolic steroids one could become a better athlete twice as fast. Not until 1975 was the drug first banned from Olympic competition because of the health risks it produced. Shortly thereafter, the rest of the sports world did not allow anabolic steroids as well. With the use of steroids no longer permitted athletes began to look for other alternatives. On the rise is two substances called creatine and androstenedione, both of which are sold over the counter. These two performance enhancers have only had minimal testing done on them, excluding the long-term effects, simply because they haven't been around long enough. Creatine and androstenedione have been said to produce results like steroids without the side effects. The truth is they do produce side effects and irregular muscle growth. By banning the use of performance enhancing drugs, just like steroids, sports competition will have a much healthier and fairer environment to participate in.
...ia, which makes one believe that they're overweight, muscle dysmorphia gives the illusion that one does not have big enough muscles (Lee.I, 2014). Another contributing factor to anabolic steroid use is that of social isolation. Social Isolation leaves those affected by it associating rapid muscle gain with social acceptance. A vast majority of the youth today suffer from this type of stress, and as a result become consumed with the idea of "getting shredded". Clinical psychologist Dr. Vivienne Lewis from the University of Canberra says "They take their body image concerns to extremes and engage in extreme behaviours..." (EleanorReader, 2014). This obsession with being physically larger than average has many psychological and physical side effects, as many steroid users become steroid abusers due to copious amounts of insecurity, low self-esteem and social isolation.
It is not a secret that some athletes use steroids to take short cuts or to go above their body’s natural limit on muscle mass. Since people that are trained by personal trainers, the public assumes that the trainer influence their customers to take steroids and chose not to tell them about the horrible and disgusting long term side effects steroids cause to the human body. I interviewed my friend James who works as a personal trainer at a local gym in Madera. The question was if it was true that personal trainers tell their customers to use steroids when they are at a point where their bodies can not grow no more muscle and cannot lose fat. His response was, “ I have never even thought of telling any of my clients to use steroids. If anything I have done the complete opposite of that! I tell them about the huge risks of taking steroids can do to their bodies and try to change their minds if they are planning to take any kind of steroid.” His response was not unexpected because he takes his job very serious and he always tells people that he wants what's best for them. Everyone should stop blaming trainers for the choices of athletes whether or not they chose to use steroids because it is not up to the trainer if the athlete is going to use body enhancing drugs because it is up to the
Athletes are always searching for ways to enhance their performance. Recently, beginning in the 1950s, that search has included the use of illegal substances like steroids and growth hormones. Illegal substances have been used widely by athletes in hop es of achieving the desired Olympic gold medal or multi-million dollar contract. Some nations, for example the late East Germany in the 1970s and 1980s, have mandated the use of steroids by their athletes. The downside of using those illegal substances is that because they are illegal, getting caught using them can lead to losing that coveted gold medal, a lifetime ban from sports, and a total loss of honor and dignity. This is why the search is now on to find some legal means of enhancing athletic per formance.
If one were to turn on the television and watch the news you would hear a lot of news stories, but you won’t commonly hear about a rising incline in steroids in today’s society. Today many people, even children, are using steroids to gain a strength advantage over their peers. So why are people using steroids?
Steroids are more than just muscle enhancers. It goes into more depth than that. Athletes use them to get the advantage on their opponent but that’s all one really knows. What really happens with the users body besides going weak to strong? It’s the science that goes in to it that gives the user its physical results. Steroids have many effects on the body both good and bad, whether it’s becoming bigger or becoming less of a man or woman, literally. When someone makes the choice to use steroids, they are getting into more than they can imagine. Steroids change your body completely and can be more bad than good. Steroids have more effects than one may think and are definitely overlooked when it comes to being a medicine and a science rather than a performance enhancer.
...You need to be hydrated to keep your body going and just to keep your body healthy. Steroids will enhance your body up to three times the size you started. Steroids sometimes will cause swelling in your brain and leave you with a severe high blood pressure. They will leave some people excessively aggressive or suicidal. “Using steroids for building muscles is not only wrong but is illegal.’’ (V.M. Katoch). Non-competitive body building is very healthy because all of the nutrients and healthy diets they put themselves on to accomplish their goal. “Look at all the diets that just banish and eliminate and demonize entire food groups, or they starve you with 1000, or 800 or 600 calories a day, or they restrict you to nothing but lemon water or vegetable juice. That kind of dieting is unhealthy.” (Venuto Tom). Body building is overall not healthy for you and your body.
