In society we are accustomed to waking up, and being surrounded by fast foods. Fast foods appear to be an extremely liked foodstuff in America. This has made such an impact all over the world, because specific general fast food places such as McDonalds and KFC are not only in North America but Africa and Europe. Everywhere we turn there isn’t a place where you won’t see an advertisement or the actual fast food place. Why is fast food so common and widely held? Loads of families all over the world have fused this kind of nourishment in their diet. People are incorporate this to their everyday lives because fast food is inexpensive, suitable and generally tastes good. Some people will choose eating fast food than eating at a more quality restaurant because of its price. Anyone can get a full tasty meal for less, than they would in a fancy restaurant. In Eric Schlosser book ‘Fast Food Nation’ he discusses his findings of the fast food industry and exposes it for what it is. Fast food has been an American tradition for over half a century and it’s not a mystery why. Fast food is the most convenient, quick, and cheapest way to get a meal. Not only is fast food cheap and convenient, it’s also loaded with grease and fat to make sure it keeps you coming back. Fast food has become almost more common than eating at home with “about half of the money used to buy food spent is at restaurants, mainly fast food restaurants.”(Schlosser) Fast food is causing problems because of the unsafe slaughterhouse conditions, questionable quality of food, and its advertising towards children.

Fast food offers greater convenience, monetary value, and variety when compared to slow food. Firstly, convenience: Fast food is readily consumable as an alternative to a freshly cooked meal. However, convenience in food products cannot be obtained without copious amounts of additives designed to deliver the illusion of freshness. Therefore, foods produced with convenience in mind is detrimental to consumer health, due to processed, chemically enhanced ingredients, giving the impression the affordable, pre-prepared consumable is a healthy somewhat nutritious meal.
Whether people are willing to admit it or not, the desire for convenience is one of the main factors that leads to obesity. In today’s fast-food industry, it’s extremely hard to find food that isn’t “highly processed, full of fat, calories and sodium” (Muntel). While people are recommended to eat an average of 1,500-1,800 calories and around 50-60 grams of fat per day, one can easily take in a whole day’s worth of calories and fat in one fast-food meal. However, people don’t think about this fact while driving past countless fast-food restaurants on their way home from work. One can find anything from a crunchy taco to deep fried chicken all at the same intersection. This abundance of fast-food restaurants makes it no longer necessary to spend hours at the grocery store or even preparing a meal when food for the whole family can be ready in a matter of minutes. As a marketer for a fast food company it is essential to have a group of people that you can rely on to always buy the company’s product, to many fast food companies they found this group of people to be adolescents and children. Marketing groups specifically market their products to entice this group of people to lure them in. Food is an object that is needed for the survival of a human, but the type of food that humans chose to eat is also not always the best.
