McDonalds is somewhere everyone has eaten at, but do they really know what they are eating? People today trust anyone with their food in order to save time for work and other important tasks. The time spent on cooking meals in America has "fallen by half since the mid-sixties" (Pollan, "Cooked" 3). Nutrition has been put in the hands of fast food corporations around the world, and they are unfortunately concerned more about money rather than health and nutrition. In other words, the food produced by McDonalds and other fast food establishments is the unhealthiest food people can eat and often leads to serious illnesses if consumed enough.
Nutrition is something that is lacking in the modern day human diet. McDonalds has played a vital role in decreasing the amount of people who cook. It leads people to have less shared meals and massively unhealthy amounts of sugar and trans fat. As surprising as it may sound, McDonalds has a nutritionist on board named Cindy Goody. Dr. Goody is a registered dietitian and McDonald 's Director of Nutrition. Even though Goody is a nutritional professional, Andy Bellatti from the Huffington Post comments on how Goody claims that "McDonald 's is 'making nutrition more mainstream ' with the likes of fruit and maple oatmeal and premium chicken sandwich buns that offer eight grams of whole grains" (www.huffingtonpost.com). Bellatti provides evidence that disproves Goody 's claim that McDonalds is indeed "nutritious." The evidence is clear when Bellatti states "The chain 's fruit and maple oatmeal contains 32 grams of sugar -- some from naturally-occurring sugar in milk, apples, and raisins -- but also from brown sugar, which is the second ingredient," and when he adds "Order it without the brown sugar...

At the end of the day, fast food is cheap and addicting. Delicious soda that is overflowing with gallons of sugar accompanied by french fries that are swimming in salt, all for under five dollars will forever beckon you back to a McDonalds. The McDonald 's commercials that come on the television and show you luscious videos of chicken nuggets will drag you out of your home at any hour of the day or night. We are a fast food addicted society and as Specter points out "for years, public health officials and food scientists have noted that, as long as gallons of sugary soda and vats of French fries are cheap and readily available, poor eating habits will be hard to change" (www.newyorker.com). McDonald 's and other fast food restaurant 's products will never be a good value, but because of their cheap, fast, and addictive appeals, it will be hard to get rid of them.
