I am a woman breed by fashion. Fashion has not only empowered me to be the strong woman I am today but it is the only matter that drives me to excel. Fashion does not just exist, it lives. How you dress can interpret how a person feels, how their day went, or what lifestyle they live. I've always wanted to help women enhance their natural beauty. I suffered from low self esteem myself, but embracing who I was and my style bought confidence and drive to my life. This has been my passion since I was five years old and even in the present day fashion is my biggest muse in life. Though I have had my obstacles staying true to my style, dedication to be successful, and my learning from my mistakes has gotten me to this opportunity today. I have great potential within me and The Fashion Institute of Technology is the perfect place for me to broaden my knowledge and apply my skills to grow within the fashion industry. I want to strive to be the best with the best.
My ambition has always been radiated by fashion. I remember as young as the age of four, fashion has been a significant facet of my life. Growing up I was quite the introvert, but fashion bought life to me. I would play dress-up with my grandparent’s clothes and costumes and do a catwalk. I started drawing clothing at the age of five. My aunt and I would sit at the dining room table and create what we liked to call "princesses". I even remember giving my drawings names of the states and their capitols just to help me in geography. Once my family picked up on my love for fashion, I got a sewing machine for Christmas. It was in 2004 and I'll never forget this Christmas year. I quickly began to learn to sew and made clothes for my Barbie dolls. I would make little...

...ings within the fashion industry. My dream is to become a Fashion Event Coordinator/Producer and I would love to own a boutique selling my own line along with other independent designer labels. I want to support the hard work of great designers that are not as mainstream and renowned but deserve the credit for great craftsmanship and talent. I want to do what I love and I know FIT will not only give me the extensive education I need to progress, but it will also put me inside of a community that is diverse in cultures and talents that will give me the competitiveness, atmosphere and challenge I need to successfully apply myself. I am a great candidate for FIT because I have no space for error. I have my eye set on a goal and I plan on achieving it with at high statures. I would love to wear the name of FIT and let the world know that FIT helped cultivate my career.
To summarize, fashion is just another outlet through which we can view our ever changing world. It is just as important as literature, cinema, and other means of creative expression that document history. However, fashion plays an even bigger role than most other art forms because it can shape the identity of a generation. Similarly, the clothes you wear can tell a story about who you are and your part in shaping a culture. In history class we often view historical events and facts so objectively that we forget that the people we read about had their own colorful culture as we do. Observing fashion and fashion history, ultimately, breathe life into the past and help us to understand how we operate as a society.
To start off the interview Cassandra asked Nina a basic question; ‘What was your dream job as a child?’ Nina said she loved fashion from the start and spent hours sketching. She told us that she never knew there were other type of jobs in fashion other
Ever since I was a little girl watching the Peony Parade I looked up to the girls who participated in the Peony Pageant. I always told myself after watching that I wanted to be one of the girls who participated in the Peony Pageant, even if I made it or not, just auditioning means that I gave it a chance. I want to be one of the girls that the younger generation looks up to, like I looked up to the girls in the past years. I was always told growing up that I could do anything I put my mind to and this is one of many things I want to achieve.
Fashion is a form people use as a way for self expression. For me, fashion dictates how a person sense of style is; some may be bold and loud or simple and calm in which it also gives others an outlook on how their character may be. Although fashion is a way to express ones’ sense of style it does not tells us who the person is personally. Fashion in the society of the 1900s has changed female gender roles then and now by the way their roles changed during the time.
Fashion is an evolving subject. Fashion Photography, as Fashion itself has transformed too. The way Fashion Photography has changed a lot to what it was and what it is now. And yes it would have changed as a lot has transformed through the years of fashion. Fashion Photography’s meaning and representation has changed in a way that the image represents something that sometimes is not realistic, Photography as an illusion. Fashion Photography has changed in the way we look at it know, it has changed gender issues, sexuality, ethnicity and the way the body has been portrayed. So when looking at a fashion image you have a lot to think about if you want to fully understand the concept of it meaning. It’ not how it used to be, women/men in clothes, showing of the designers creations. But it has a hidden agenda, hidden word, a meaning that it is try to communicate to the viewers. The words in the image, the image are the words, words are hidden in the image or the image is the word are many ways of explaining how fashion image are seen and understood in today fashion photography.
From the moment I starting my educational path I knew four years wouldn’t be enough to fill me with all the dimensions of the fashion industry. This led me to make my decision to apply for the M.S. Global Fashion Enterprise degree. When asked how this program at Philadelphia University would benefit me, I will begin by giving a background on my previous education. I started my undergraduate degree at Buffalo State College in upstate New York pursuing a Bachelor degree in Fashion Merchandising. After being in the program for a year I was confident in knowing I needed a change. My journey changed drastically when I moved down to sunny Fort Lauderdale, Florida where I transferred to the Art Institute under the same major. I will be graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Fashion Merchandising come this June 2014. My experience at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale has uncovered my love of education and research.
To begin with, I will look at each of the two subjects. Fashion is an extremely large subject with many sub-categories and can mean many different things, however in this essay I will take fashion to mean the popular clothing style. I will put emphasis on looking at high fashion as these are the leaders of their field. Fashion itself though, is not to be confused with clothing. Clothing is a part of fashion, but it is predominantly purely functional, for protection from different aspects of the environment. Fashion however, is primarily for image. It is a way to present individuality and personality. A physical mouldable form of expression. Designers wish to create works of art that can be worn, and this is wear clothing becomes an art form.
Fashion takes on many different facets and concerns many subsets— a model sashaying down the runway in a gown encrusted in real gems, Lady Gaga’s infamous dress made of cuts of raw beef, a teenage girl obsessing over the season’s latest styles— it is all an expression of our minds and who we are or want to be, made tangible. It is a medium just like any other, for while artists wield brushes and paints, designers use thread and cloth to illustrate their vision. The artistry is none more so apparent than in the exclusive world of haute couture, a world of extravagance that caters to aesthetics, producing one-of-a-kind wearable masterpieces that are made to be admired rather than worn. It is without doubt, high fashion and its design is an art.
The Future: Where would you like to work? Research and describe a specific employer in your industry as well as the workplace environment. Why do you want to work there? If your goal is to be self-employed, what existing business or artist might you model and why? What will make your work marketable to your chosen audience?
Anybody that knows me knows that my passion and goals in life have to deal with fashion. If I could be anything in this world I would love to be a designer of some sort or at least be in the industry. When it comes to clothing and style it just comes easy one of the easiest things I’m good at. Fashion is an art form it allows you to express your view on style anyway you choose. And to me I feel like nobody has the right to judge that. Style hasn’t always come easy to be though just like everything else it takes time and practice it’s still a work in progress. When I look back to my middle school and early high school years I wonder deeply about my choices, middle school had to have been the worst. I was going through a colored jeans faze, I would wear bright yellow, honey mustard yellow, sky blue, purple, and pink. If somebody were to name a color I probably had jeans that color. It gets worse though because I would have the worst possible combination choice of shoes to go along with a matching bead necklace and bracelet set, followed by a grey or navy blue uniform shirt. It’s clear I had no idea what I was doing the best part is I was being myself and that’s all that matters. No matter how much I think my style has grown I’m only human and will look back and probably wonder why I wore the outfit I’m wearing sitting here writing this essay.
Clothing has always been an important part of society, with evidence from the earliest human civilizations. In history, climate, religion and political factors played a role in the fabrication, styling and even color of the garments that people wore. Today, the fashion industry is multi-faceted, and while climate and religion are still some factors in how we dress, there are many more influences in what we choose to wear. Time and time again, designers reference historical styles and push them into modern trends. Subcultures illustrate how a particular way of dressing can transform into a lifestyle. Ethnic fashion ties in with a specific culture’s values and beliefs. By looking at clothing in other societies around the world, as well as the many global subcultures, we can learn a lot about the depth and complexity of the members that make this world colorful and diverse.
In life I want to become a fashion designer. My goals are to create clothing that is for all sizes, ages, and genders. In my clothing I want t show a creative side of my art ability and I want to make my clothing affordable for all as well. I think I influenced myself to wanting to become a fashion designer because I have a passion for art and wanting to become a fashion designer.
...is instilled in me, that I must gain as much knowledge as possible in order to succeed in life. In the fashion industry, one must continue to learn about the world around them in order to keep up with the changes in the industry. There are many different ways today that I can keep up with what is going on in the fashion world without going to school, but school will prepare me for the challenges that are to come. The only previous work experience that I had working in a fashion was at Mortal Kombat. I did not stay at the job very long because of personal issues that I had with staff. I feel that I need to get involved in some type of fashion job so that I can network better. Networking is essential in the fashion business, because you may never see people that you want to talk to but word-of-mouth can open doors that lead you in the direction that you wanted to go.
All things considered, I firmly believe that people devoted to fashion clothing could earn self-esteem and make them more confident. Nevertheless, it is significant to be original and capable of deciding what to wear by ourselves instead of following the trends without consider our personality. Needless to say, no one should discriminate someone because of not being in fashion. It is our responsibility to give the right importance to
To begin with, I shall look at what fashion is; it is a currently popular style or practice involving clothing, footwear or accessories. It mostly refers to the current trends in looks and dressing style of a person (Cumming 234). In most cases, fashion is confusedly related to costumes; when a person talks of fashion they are seen to mean fashion in terms of textile. Fashion is seen to originate from the Western world and it is copied by other places. In this paper, we shall look at how fashion affects lifestyles and the group of people who are affected most. The paper further investigates how media is used to transmit fashion from one region to the other. Although it has been seen to affect people’s lives many people have different perspectives on fashion and dressing.
