"Can I help you kids with anything?" Comes a dry voice from behind them. Xander jumps a little, half startled out of his skin and drops the dusty old fairytale book he was holding. Luna pivots around until she comes face to face with a short old woman whose wrinkled face seemed to be moulded into a permanent scowl.
"We were just looking” Xander winces nervously, as he hurried to flatten out a page of the book he dropped.
The old woman just stares at them and rolls her eyes "You'll never get a crease out like that," she mutters, snatching the book out of 's hands. "Follow me, follow me." she wheezes and begins shuffling down an isle between the overflowing bookshelves.
Luna glances worriedly at before grasping his hand Xander and leading them behind the old woman. She leads them to an old wooden desk with piles of books and an ancient cash register on it. Then places the book down on it before selecting a huge, heavy looking book out of one of the piles and loudly dropping it on top of it. "That'll fix it. I'll be back in just a second, please try not to break anything else in that time." She tells them in a monotone voice before walking away.
"What do we do?" Luna worries.
"I don't know," replies Xander in a harsh whisper "why did we even come here? It's so creepy, I'm pretty sure I saw something moving under the shelves over there."
"Maybe we could sneak ou-"
"I'm afraid that won't be possible kids, if you break it you buy it and you’re not leaving my store without buying that book." the old lady interrupts, startling them both.
"We were going to," Xander mumbles sheepishly. Embarrassed at being caught and edges forward, pulling his wallet out of his back pocket.
"Then follow me, the registers up front." the old lady says and shu...
... middle of paper ...
...a breath as Xander's thumb rubs circles into her skin, his hands are like ice.
"I need a princess," Xander says, almost apologetic.
Luna stares at him, unamused. "Sorry, but I think I've already proved that I can't be that."
Xander's hand on her shoulder tightens. "It's. ...I need a princess," he says again, and his eyes are emotionless as they move up to Luna's. "I'm sorry, Luna," Xander says, sounding apologetic. "It won't work if it's you."
"No, Xander, you - " Luna starts, stumbling over her words, trying to pull out of Xander's hold. "It doesn't have to end like this- "
"Yes," Xander breathes,"Yes, it does."
"Xander," Luna whimpers, "Xander, don't, please, I love you."
"I'm sorry," Xander says again, his face emotionless. "I'm sorry, Luna. I'll miss you."
"Don't," Luna cries, and watches a slow, horrible smile grow his face before he pushes her off the cliff.
" What do you mean she will be fine?! Did you not see her " I hear Akira yell.
“Thank you, sir. I just don’t understand what’s happening, this seems so surreal...Mr. Morris, Where is Lizzie?”
“We’re going to print out copies of the books we have remembered over the years that we have stored, and share with the leftover survivors that we have been found.”
“I am not?” Tom opened his eye wide and laughed. He could afford to control himself now. “Why is that?”
“Is there anything else you can do to stop them? I hate the idea of strangers stealing from us.”
Jake squinted and reached a hand to Dallas, grabbing his shirt. “Keep her away from me—or I swear—you’re finished.”
Ever since I was a child, I've never liked reading. Every time I was told to read, I would just sleep or do something else instead. In "A Love Affair with Books" by Bernadete Piassa tells a story about her passion for reading books. Piassa demonstrates how reading books has influenced her life. Reading her story has given me a different perspective on books. It has showed me that not only are they words written on paper, they are also feelings and expressions.
The claim that supernatural literature is ultimately the literature of the subaltern is multidimensional, validating the need for analysis and examination. Firstly, it must be understood what the genre supernatural literature is, and the traditional elements its narrative involves . Secondly, the validity of the claim that this genre is for the subaltern will be justified with reference to The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson. Thirdly, it must be examined the extend that this text appeals to a wider audience, including an analysis of the appeal to academics. Fourthly, with reference to A Game of Thrones by George R. R. Martin, the claim that supernatural literature is for the preponderance will be explored. Lastly, A Game of Thrones will bring into question if the genre it resides has reason to appeals to academia. Consequently, supernatural literature as a genre will be explored with an analyse of its target audience.
"No I won't," she said. She sat up in bed and cradled Bart in her arms. "I like the story; it doesn't scare me."
“I know, but you look so lovely in my castle and your presence is overwhelming.” Pluto said.
“Come down here on the floor with him.” She pats the spot next to her. I shake my head, comfortable where I am on the couch, a safe distance away. “You’re going to have to engage,” she says. “If you want to be able to do this after I leave.”
“Sorry, it was wrong of me to do that to you.” Malvinas murmured after a long silence.
“No,” Quinn responds as she joins him on the floor. Her eyes are full of apprehension, fear, and love as she crosses her legs and then reaches to take his hands into hers. “I'm not, but that doesn't change the fact that we're doing this.” She looks deep into his eyes, remembering how it felt when
“Ooooooo! Maybe it is the ghost of the lady who died here before we moved in. mwaha-ha, ha!”Danny says.
I do not remember any time in my life, when I was not aware of books. My earliest memory is of my uncle telling me a story about a wicked dragon, which steals a treasure, and the group of heroes, who go to confront him in battle. He used to tell me this story in sequels, a small amount every week, so by the time next week came up, I would be totally waiting in anticipation. It was when I started reading myself, that I realized that he had been retelling Tolkien's "The Hobbit". To this day "The Hobbit" is one of my favorite books, I read it to bring back memories of my child hood, when I’m depressed, or when I plain don’t have anything else to read.
