Family Lifestyle In The UAE
Lifestyle has a great effect on our life. We should have a healthy lifestyle and avoid different risk factors that lead to disease. A healthy lifestyle is the correct way to reduce the risk of having many chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular diseases which are the most common diseases in the UAE. One of the major causes of these diseases is a poor lifestyle.
That is why on Friday 25th April, I visited our neighbors to learn about their knowledge, attitude and habits concerning their smoking, home safety, and food safety to get a better understanding of how these factors affect people’s health in the UAE and to learn more about UAE family lifestyles. The father, Mr. S (39 years old) is a ‘stockiest’ in the armed forces, while the mother Mrs. A (36 years old) is a supervisor, with four children, the oldest girl being a 13 year old, 12 year-old boy and twins (9 years-old). I will write about the family’s knowledge, attitude and habits based on smoking, home safety, and food safety.
Smoking
In terms of smoking, the father strongly approves of it because he is a smoker. He smokes cigarettes and a pipe. He started smoking at the age of 16 after an injury to his foot. He was a good football player and lost his job because of the injury as he could not play football anymore. In contrast, the mother strongly disapproves of smoking.
Both parents know that smoking is dangerous and has many effects on the family’s health. They realize that it will affect both the smoker and his family as it can cause respiratory diseases, diabetes, lung cancer, and other cancers but the father is unable to stop smoking.
