One effective way that I dealt with failure in my life was when I was laid off from a 17 year job. This was a failure in which I directly blamed the unethical greed of the CEO who instigated the massive layoffs of more than 10,000 people nationally and walked away with $20 million dollars to retire. It had been more than 25 years since I graduated high school and I went straight to college to get a degree to make myself more marketable in the job industry as an older adult. Layoffs began occurring in 2008 and I enrolled in community college courses at night. In 2009, I was laid off and attended community college full time and graduated in 2010. I graduated summa cum laude from UTA in 2013 with a Bachelor’s Degree. Three weeks later I was enrolled at SMU and graduated with a Master’s Degree in 2015. Currently, I am seeking a second Master’s degree and anticipate graduating in 2017. This was an educational pursuit which succeeded my original expectations. The best learning experience I had through this process was that when something bad happens to you through no fault of your own and you have no control over it, is to occupy your mind and life with another goal or activity. Obtaining a college degree was my goal.
An example of ineffective way of dealing with failure was when I was the church organist for a new minister. I had been the organist for ten years straight, but for reasons unknown the new minister bullied me relentlessly until I quickly and abruptly resigned. I would like to mention that I am a virtuoso pianist with 47 years of practice and 35 years of experience in teaching and performance. I later learned that the new minister ran other members out and the church that had been in existence for over 50 years closed perm...

...f the failure was obviously intentional, then whoever purposely caused it should be held accountable. Failure caused by accidents or unintentional means should not be blamed, but put into place policies for the failure to not happen again. Early detection of problems is the key to preventing failures.
Reading the example of the space ship explosion really brought up the point that in some cases, failure is simply not an option because lives are at risk. There are failures that do cause death. Also, there may be more than one cause, so it is vital to find not only the root cause, but other problems that are related to the failure.
Lastly, it is better to be realistic than idealistic in the planned prevention stages of failure. Everyone wants a project to succeed, but employees should be realistic and think more about what could go wrong than what could go right.

Learning from Failures Essay

- Whoooo. Taking a deep breath, I whisk my nerves aside. This is the moment I have worked so hard for and I had to dive in head first. The curtain whisks open to an auditorium filled with hundreds of silhouettes. Dimly the lights cast a gray mist over the anticipating crowd. As the music begins the lights burst onto the stage. Suddenly ten gorgeous girls with heavy stage makeup and curls swing into action. This is the moment we have all been waiting for after a week of countless activities and interviews....   [tags: failure,]

Learning How to Learn Essay

- Learning How to Learn There are four characteristics to Kolb’s learning style. They are divergers, convergers, accommodators and assimilators. Divergers are people whose strength lies in creative and imaginative ability. They excel in the ability to see concrete situations from many sides and to come up with a lot of ideas. Failures And Its Impact On My Life Essay

- Although failures are meant to discourage, my failures are what I thrive off of and what has shaped me into the person I am today. It is because of my failures that I have acquired and developed skills in areas such as fundamental, multicultural, social and information literacies. I was raised up to be a self-motivated person by the most inspirational people in my life, my parents. While my parents had lived out a true ‘Cinderella story,’ they defied all odds against them and turned very little into more than enough....   [tags: Literacy, Information literacy, Spanish language]

Reasons for Our Successes and Failures in Life Essays

- ... I can relate some episodes of Lac Su’s memoir. The person I had become and where I am now is thanks to my father. He was very strict with me and had high expectations for me. I can assume that Lac Su is somehow thankful to his dad as I am because he states at the end of his memoir that “Pa was always working on this bridge, and it was in sight while I was growing up, though it was too far from being finished for me to appreciate. When I finally reached the bridge, it was there for me to cross with ease”(246)....   [tags: tiger parents, Asian culture]

Growing Up I Had Parental Support, A Great School And A Drive For Learning

- Q1. Growing up I had parental support, a great school and a drive for learning. I always made good grades and never really struggled throughout my school career. It never crossed my mind the reality that some children and adults didn’t have those same opportunities or outcomes as I did. For the last 4 years I have worked in the nonprofit sector. My most recent position I worked at Literacy Mid-South in Memphis, TN. We provided tutors for adults who read at a sixth grade reading level or below. We also worked with area education non-profits providing resources, sustainability training, and a collaborative venue to talk about trends and best practices....   [tags: Education, Learning, School, College]

The Impact Of My School Experience Essay

- The Impact of My School Experience My school experience did little, if anything, to prepare me to become a well-rounded citizen. I did not learn a more diverse vocabulary or how to analyze and learn information because my teachers were not motivated to teach these topics properly. Also, while I may have learned the basic politics of America, I do not know nearly enough to make me a strongly reliable citizen. In addition, I feel as if my inadequate education could have been avoided if I was given a solid education rather than simply what I needed to get by....   [tags: Education, Teacher, School, History of education]
