Fahrenheit 451 is conceivably one of the most celebrated science fiction and fantasy novels that was ever written. The author, Ray Bradbury, wrote this novel in the form of a dystopian genre. This novel was written in the year of 1953 as a novel based in the future. Throughout this novel the characters in how they interact with each other throughout the story build up the themes incredibly. This novel is all about a main character named Guy Montag who was a fireman. As a fireman Montag was supposed to burn any books from the orders of Beatty and his superiors. Montag’s perspective on the world changed throughout the story. The main proponent to the change of his perspective was the world of reading. His boss Beatty and the mechanical hound at the fire station were the characters against reading and agreed with burning books. The one character that started the change in Montag’s perspective was a young girl named Clarisse. Her point of view on the world and society was a point of view that Montag had never seen before in his life. These two main themes are censorship and knowledge versus ignorance. When reading through this novel, you will not find the reasoning behind why the government wants books banned in the first place. In the book there seems to be two different types of people; ones who loved to read and others who loved the more advanced forms of entertainment like the radio and television. In the story, tension between knowledge and ignorance revolved around the characters of Montag, Faber, and Beatty. Beatty took it as his duty to burn books from any call to promote ignorance to equalize the population of the community and promote equality of knowledge. Montag’s encounters with Faber and even Clarisse lead him to a quest to gain knowledge whenever he could from whatever he could gain knowledge
