Everyone has seen and heard the advertisements for the popular tanning salons. However, not everyone knows the real truth and facts about artificial tanning. There are many similarities and differences between natural tanning in the sunlight and artificial tanning in a bed. People are obsessed with tanning but for what reason. The tan does not last forever; the big deal of going tanning is just to show off how dark you look. Even though many people chose to use a tanning bed, dermatologists have studied that tanning naturally under the sun is healthier for the human body. In 1923, Chanel the French fashion designer unintentionally acquired a lot of sun on a yacht to Cannes. When she had returned, she was golden brown, so a trend was born. That is when everyone was going out and trying to be tan, at that time it was a fashion statement and a huge deal to be tan. Now days, it is still a fashion statement among teenagers to be tan. By the nineteen seventies sunscreen was out, so were tanning beds/ booths for those certain people who had worried about tanning in the sun. There are many differences between tanning out under the sun and tanning in a bed. A tanning bed is a structure with fluorescent light in them. The beds can either be stood up or reclined down to lay in them. Tanning beds were produced in order to give people that flawless cosmetic tan. More teenagers use the tanning beds instead of adults. Also, celebrities use the tanning beds in order to get a perfect tan for an event. Though many of them don’t realize or even care that this is damaging their health.
