In the beginning of the course we were assigned to take the SmarterMeasure assignment. The assignment’s purpose is to assess and test our skills to see if we are prepared for learning online. Not only did it test my readiness for the class, but also prepared me with valid information and tools for the rest of my academic journey.
One of the subjects the assessment measured was life factors. It analyzed five life factors that impact our learning. The five life factors included were time, place, reason, resources, and skills. Resulting lower scores on time and resources scoring two on both factors. I also scored average on reason, skills and place receiving scores of threes. The seven learning styles are visual, logic, aural, physical, social, verbal and solitary. Visual learning is what the assessment said was my primary learning style. Visual learning means that I comprehend new information better when I can see a picture or graphic to illustrate it. I agree with this analysis because I tend to doodle in my notes because it helps me remember information. By doodling I can produce things that are related to the course content which is one of many ways of how I use visuals to learn new things. During this course I’ve learned to use my visual learning style and cater it in my other classes one example is by using colors to highlight important information and it has helped me remember the material. One of the most important things I learned was the theory of psychology of learning cognition, and motivation. I’ve learned how to create strengths out of my weaknesses and accept them and use them as motivation to make me into a better learner . For example, one of my greatest strengths that I use, whether it is at work or school is my ability to be open-minded(skepticism) like a critical thinker. It is important to be observant to your surroundings and know what you are doing at the moment and do things correctly. A second skill or strength that I have is perspective taking. I like to take into consideration other people’s feelings, ideas before making a judgment or just to justify my actions towards them. By putting myself in their shoes I have a better understanding of their lives and the way they see things. Another skill that I have is relationship development. Connecting with people is important and at times difficult.” Surround yourself with only people who are going to lift you higher” (Oprah Winfrey). You have to have healthy relationships with other people who will be there for you to help you in your time of need. By being around the right people that are kind you will make you kind as well.
Overall, The smart measure assessment helped me figure out my learning style In the beginning of the course I was having challenges in understanding the material, but once
